Help with a leaking toilet pan connector

...just looking around for parts and I came across this: http://www.plumbers-mate-sales.co.uk/mcalpine-4in-to-3-pan-connector-reducing-extension---40005055-474-p.asp Could I use one of these to get rid of the fernco or am I making un-necessary work for myself? I guess my worry is that the...

Help with a leaking toilet pan connector

Thanks again, Rob. So something like this as a replacement? http://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-wc-con8f-90-flexible-pan-connector-110mm-outlet/28262 If so does the fernco then clamp over the concertina bit on the LHS of this?

Help with a leaking toilet pan connector

That makes sense, Rob, thanks! What about the other end? Does the flexi connector connect to the elbow or is that an integral unit? If it's separate is it better for me to replace it with an integral unit? Also - do those dimensions make sense and can I just use "standard" fittings?

Help with a leaking toilet pan connector

Hi! I'm hoping someone can recommend the best way of fixing a leak on the flexible connector shown in the photo. This is an old '60s house and the fittings on the photo were in place when we bought it so I have no idea how old they are. I'm also struggling to work out how many pieces of...

Ideal Elan 2 Boiler - identification and parts availability?

Why wouldn't I want to be in a position of knowledge? ;)

Ideal Elan 2 Boiler - identification and parts availability?

Thanks Tony - that's great info. You're right - he didn't have it serviced or put on a maintenance contract despite us telling him several times. Kids, eh? ;) I'm not intending to DIY it - although I'm a good DIYer I know where to draw the line ;) The info is required so I can talk to a...

Ideal Elan 2 Boiler - identification and parts availability?

My son has an Ideal Elan 2 in his house, fitted by previous owner around 1987 which has just stopped working and I'm trying to find out a bit more about it to decide if it's worth repairing. It's a 40kBTU balanced flue model, so I think it must be an RS240. Does anyone know how I can confirm...

Sludged up heat exchanger - replace or flush?

Thanks for the replies so far, all. Any other views appreciated. How do I know if the heat exchanger is stainless steel? It's a Worcester 35CDi mark 2 if that helps. The engineer that came out flushed the old one with cold water using a hose, then a couple of fills of X800 and boiling...

Sludged up heat exchanger - replace or flush?

I've recently had a maintenance engineer call out for my boiler which was kettling, banging and venting when running hot water. The issue was sludge and magnetite in the hot water heat exchanger. (I have a magnaclean but this was only fitted three years ago and the system is very old with a...

    Bath overflow fitting sizes?

I answered my own question with a quick trip to the local plumber's merchant: They had a McAlpine set which has completely different overflow fitting and pipe sizes to the Screwfix one and luckily one was compatible.

    Bath overflow fitting sizes?

I want to replace the chrome overflow fitting on my bath with a shiny new one and thought it would be really easy, so I bought this: http://www.screwfix.com/p/bath-waste-with-chrome-plug-16-chain/32944 only to find that the plastic pipe that goes into the waste is a smaller diameter and...

Bath tap holes too large for taps

A quick postscript to this, just in case anyone finds it in a search. I contacted the supplier of the taps (Virgin Bathrooms) who were great in helping me find some suitable washers. They had a couple of types available and I went for a pair of shallow conical chrome ones that screwed onto...

Compression joint on a old solder run?

Apologies for the "newb" question but I'm fitting a flexible tap tail to a 22mm hot water feed and have noticed that there are three or four solder runs from an old joint exactly where my compression olive needs to go. Will I get away with cleaning this up, maybe applying a bit of heat to get...

Bath tap holes too large for taps

I'm wondering if these may do the trick? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Solid-Chrome-Tap-base-ring-inner-dia-30mm-outer-dia-51mm-9mm-thick-/271713866193 Thoughts?

Bath tap holes too large for taps

Great suggestion, thanks! Shame about the price as I'll need two - ouch! Still I guess it's cheaper than buying new taps.

Bath tap holes too large for taps

I'm fitting a mixer tap to an enamel bath, got everything disconnected then noticed that the pillars for the new mixer barely cover the holes in the enamel bath. The old taps had 50mm shoulders, the new pillars are just 40mm and the holes in the enamel bath are 38mm which is a little close...
