    Treating wooden raised beds

Thanks Pinenot . Its for shrubs ect , I wont be growing any veg , so the organic issue isn`t really a concern for me. I`m just interested in the best way to preserve the wood - obviousely , I dont want to kill my plants in the process , though :) Incidentally , I`ve ordered the 10" x...

    Surface water issue

We had a very similar situation to this , with our garden sloping towards the house . I built a path /patio 2 years ago , which runs from one end of the garden to the other . To help with the drainage , I cut a hole in the side of the storm drain , below ground level and covered it with a 6"...

    Treating wooden raised beds

Hi Folks , I`m thinking of making some raised borders for my front garden . I thought , rather than use railway sleepers , (which I used in the back)which I think might be a bit bulky , as I only have a small garden , I`d use something like 8" x 3" redwood sawn timber . Just...

Fitting Stone Shower Tray onto tiled floor

I am fitting a new stone resin based shower tray onto existing porcelain floor tiles ( I cant remove the tiles , as it would affect the underfloor heating . Would I be ok fitting directly onto them with tile adhesive - possibly scouring the surface of the tiles to aid bonding ?? Or should...

    Hairline Cracks In Shower Tray

Hello Folks , I have an acrylic/stone resin shower tray which is four years old . Ive noticed several hairline cracks appearing in the internal corners of the surface . Theyre barely noticable at the moment , but Im sure they`ll get worse . To remove the tray...

    Treating tanalised timber

Hello Folks , I recently bought a wooden corner seat/arbour for my garden . My idea was to treat it using liberon decking oil - as Ive used on my decking . However , when i started staining it , I can still see the green spots coming through in places caused by the tanalith . I tried...

    Decking questions

Its up to tyou , really . I just thought it made it easier , as then you`ll know the edge of your deck will be solid . You might not be able to get a post in the ground close to your house due to the foundations , then you`ll have a foot or two overhanging your posts . As long as you can...

    Decking questions

I did a similar job last year . I decided to use 4x4 posts spaced every 1 to 1.5 meters apart , and concreted them into the ground , rather than sit on the existing patio . I just worked out where the posts would be , and dug up the flags in those positions . My frame then fixed to the posts ...

    Grave/Shingle Pathway Questions

Tricky one that , George ! Having done a bit of this type of work myself , the first thing I`d say is DONT have a go yourself if you have back problems . Compacters arent the easiest things to use , if your back isnt up to it . Neither is mixing mortar and laying stones ! Why dont you have...

Replacing Halogen GU10 Bulbs with LEDs

Theyre quite hard work to get the outer cover off , and the heat has caused the plaster to become quite brittle , so it tends to chip off Also , it didnt help that the lad who fitted them used a hand saw rather than a drill to make the holes , so theyre not as good a fit as they could be .
