What is this noise and how to stop it please ?

Obviously it depends on your volume level when you listen to this but this is the noise recorded inside the cupboard. Apparently I can't load a .wav or .wmv file here so I've put it onto YouTube :

What is this noise and how to stop it please ?

Thank you. I'll record the noise and give access to it later.

What is this noise and how to stop it please ?

Is it really that complicated ?

What is this noise and how to stop it please ?

Periodically we get a noise when we turn on any hot tap if no hot water has been drawn for 6-8 hours. It's a house that we had built 8 years ago, I think the system is called an "unvented system" i.e. there is no header tank with the traditional ball valve, just a large tank in a cupboard in one...

    External wall lights and PIR

I suppose the same applies to moths & bats.

    Thanks for that. I'll investigate.

    External wall lights and PIR

Actually I believe I have a light that is faulty. It comes on for no apparent reason during the hours of darkness and I was looking for a sensitivy option to adjust but there isn't one so I was going to replace it with one that has but can't find one. I have a driveway alarm that triggers a...

    External wall lights and PIR

Thanks for that. I have read some of the technical and installation documents applicable. The PIR appears to work on infra-red heat detection rather than obstacle movement detection. Do all PIRs work on this principle ?

    External wall lights and PIR

I am having problems finding an external wall light, the normal type that looks like a carriage lamp or lantern, with it's own integral PIR that allows me to adjust the sensitivity of the PIR. I have one which has adjustments for length of time the lamp is on and also for daylight/dark...

    Time to renew telephone system.

I want to replace our existing telephone system which is a base station and 2 satellites. Most of them do what I need but although there are makes out there that enable conversations to be recorded it seems that you can only play the recording back using the 'phone. This is one example ...

    Flourescent tube.

Thanks for that @fluorescence, I wondered if that is what I would have to do. I do have an angle poise lamp sitting on my server which suits me when I'm using one of the PCs but if I want to go delving around in filing cabinets it gets a bit dark. When investigating it earlier I left the cover...

    Flourescent tube.

A bit more info. Maybe one of you chaps could tell me what the maximum "brightness" of tube I can fit in this lamp unit if I change the ballast please ? Also, if I do that instead of going for a new lamp what ballast would I need ? Thanks for all your help on this.

    Flourescent tube.

Thanks @Taylortwocities, it sort of flickers for a couple of nano seconds, it doesn't flash as such like they used to do years ago. I'll still have a look inside it just out of curiosity but you may well be right with the new unit idea.

    Flourescent tube.

Thank you all for your help. I think I need to dismantle the lamp and see what I have got inside it. As I said earlier, I'm not sure where the lamp came from, it could easily be 20 years old and just have the old type of starter. Piccies to follow. But I am tempted to just go and buy another...

    Flourescent tube.

Thanks for that @Keithmac . I have an account at Screwfix which is where you got that from. Do they do the starters if I need one ? And what am I looking for in the unit as far as starter and ballast is concerned. Sorry for the ignorance but I'm not an electrician.

    Flourescent tube.

Thank you @winston1. On reflection yes, it has never been very bright but as per my post above, maybe I stupidly fitted the wrong light anyway because it was just one that I had in stock and I thought that it would do the job. My office is 4.8mts x 2.9mts-ish. Is there a formula for what is...

    Flourescent tube.

Thank you for that @333rocky333 . Yes, I thought that the pin centres were about 13mm. But now I need to do a bit more investigating because I've just remembered that the original light was a single pendant bulb when we built the house 8 years ago and I changed it for this flourescent tube...

    Flourescent tube.

I have looked for an answer but couldn't find one so asking what I hope will be a simple problem to solve. I have a flourescent light fitting in my office and it has an Osram 120cm T8 L36W827 Warm White tube in it. But it is very dull and I want to replace with something brighter and so my...

    Stupid question - sorry.

My way was quicker. Took less than 5 minutes to untwist the whole line. To prevent it twisting you have to turn the pin round instead just wrapping the line round the pin. But it's too slow doing it like that until you've got a lot of line on the pin giving a larger diameter. I have a flag pole...
