    What's this please . . . . . . . . . . ?

Hmmm . . . the other black wire appears to go out in to the porch and then up in to the loft space (we're in a bungalow). See below. IMG_5696 by TheSalad posted 26 Jan 2017 at 9:44 AM IMG_5697 by TheSalad posted 26 Jan 2017 at 9:44 AM

    What's this please . . . . . . . . . . ?

The grey wire at the back went to a BT box on the skirting board. I haven't traced back the black n red wires, which I assume are or were live. I need to work out if its redundant and dead or if I need to get a man in to make it safe. Some more photos. IMG_5694 by TheSalad posted 26 Jan 2017...

    What's this please . . . . . . . . . . ?

Hi Folks . . . we are decorating our hallway and in doing so we are removing the landline as we no longer have need of it. I came to take down this (below) and was puzzled as I was not expecting to see any electric supply to telecoms. Could anyone tell me what it might be? Many thanks for...

    Why is the brickwork wet . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ?

Thanks. What about the thing on top of the brickwork above the garage (I don't know what to call it), there is nothing to it to allow water to drip away from the wall, it seems to promote water running down the wall.

    Lagging pipework under the house . . . . . . . . . .

The pipework leading from the boiler (positioned central in the house) to the radiator and the hot water tap in the new utility space has not been lagged under the floor of the house. I was expecting to see this sort of stuff.

    Lagging pipework under the house . . . . . . . . . .

Hi Folks, we have just converted our garage on the side of the house in to a utility room. Our plumber has plumbed in hot/cold taps and a new large radiator. Is it reasonable to expect the new pipework which goes some distance under the house to be lagged?

    Why is the brickwork wet . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ?

Hi Folks, when it rains the brickwork above my garage gets soaking wet, highlighted in red on the photos. Is there anything I can do to improve this? Many thanks. Garage 1 by TheSalad posted 9 Nov 2016 at 2:48 PM Garage 2 by TheSalad posted 9 Nov 2016 at 2:48 PM

    Xmas lights . . RCD and Timer . . . . . . . . . .

The house electrics are covered by a RCD, so guess another RCD won't add any value will it? This is the weather proof box I purchased. Should be okay hidden behind a bush in the garden shouldn't it?

    Xmas lights . . RCD and Timer . . . . . . . . . .

Hi Folks, grateful for some advice please. Never had any oudoor xmas lights before but now I have a nice tree on the driveway in which I'd like to put in some simple white lights ready for December. Power will come from a socket in the garage, this lead will go to a weatherproof box and the...

    Should toilet be secured to the floor . . . . . . . . . . . . ?

Hi, just had a new toilet fit on top of a new floor. The plumber has neither secured it to the wall (difficult cause there is a big gap behind cistern as wall is not straight) or secured it to the floor. Also no silicone at the base either. It feels solid enough on first use. Is it a big...

Window silicone . . . . is it good enough?

Hi, just had some nice new UPVC sash windows installed but am a little disappointed with the silicone round the edges. Was hoping for a tidier job. Is it me ? IMG_5620 by TheSalad posted 5 Oct 2016 at 3:21 PM IMG_5619 by TheSalad posted 5 Oct 2016 at 3:21 PM IMG_5618 by TheSalad posted 5 Oct...

    Damp in chimney breast and wall - photos . . . . . . . . . .

Just to complete the picture, this is how it looked back in May. The same damp was reported in the survey when we purchased the property back in December 2015. IMG_5100 by TheSalad posted 11 Sep 2016 at 7:28 PM
