    Fitting door latches

I had to do some chiselling even with the 20mm square peg, round hole and all that. I found these bits amazing. They literally pull you through the hole with them - and cut cleanly even on low speed. Anyway, got what I needed done, so thanks forum!

    Fitting door latches

yeah - thought if that on my way to the shop. Putting the latch next to the bits - 19mm would have been perfect, but they only stocked 18 & 20mm... so got the 20mm...

    Fitting door latches

Hello, I'm hoping to install some new latches (the tubular type) into new doors - I'm planning on using one of these to bore into the door - are these the best bits, or would some auger style bit be better? Is there a standard size hole needed for this job too? Whitling2k

    Logging boiler activity

wow Pico Log looks good, but a bit above my price range! I was hoping more for a proxy/raspberry pi type DIY approach! Like a motion sensing camera trained on the thermostat LED... http://www.noveldevices.co.uk/rp-boilermonitor but I don't have that much time available for experimenting...

    Logging boiler activity

That's what I thought - but how might that be possible with cheap/simple kit, and in a format I can import to say Excel?

    Logging boiler activity

Hey! I think this fits here better than home automation... but in an effort to improve the efficiency of my house by optimising room warm-up times, radiator output and thermostat settings - I;m trying to find a way to track exactly when my boiler is on. I have tried in the past with a simple...

    Quick question

Morning! Multimeter and device images. I did note the bottom of the device says 9V, 1.8VA... is this a clue? Whitling2k

    Quick question

yes... cat poo... not the nicest thing to be scraping off my 1 year old's feet because she selfishly wants to play out the garden. Worst thing is, round here they don't even bother trying to hide it - middle of the lawn, paving slabs, even the drive. Anyway... Rechargables: Discounted these...

    Quick question

Now then! I have a few supersonic cat scarers in the garden to stop them from laying landlines on my lawn. Currently each scarer eats through 2x 9v batteries every month or so.. Which is getting expensive! They do have an option for powering then with a 9v DC, 500ma mains adapter. The...

cutting down a moulded MDF door

Cool - thanks for the tips. I have made it 6mm too wide to plane back to a smooth surface - so in theory, I could easily trim 5mm or so from each edge. By lip, do you mean attach a thin strip of wood around the outside of the door? How would that work with the grooves?

    Velux security lock

Hi there, I installed a Velux , and I love it - but I don't leave it open on a night because it just looks too tempting for would-be-robbers. It's on a dormer roof, so a bunk-up would be a silent and tool less entry point. I know you can get official Velux opening restrictors, but I...

cutting down a moulded MDF door

Now then! I am cutting about 6" off each side, and angling the top to about 45deg of a moulded MDF door to make it fit a wee cupboard door opening I have built. I'm cutting an existing door down because I have 4 spare, I'm from Yorkshire and I want it in the same style as all my other doors...

    New doors

Hi, Generally speaking, would it be a builder or a window and door company who would be best placed to knock out a new external door, and install some patio doors where I currently have a window? Ta Mark

    cooker hood noises

Hey! I'm looking for a new motor for my 110cm stoves cooker hood (444445522) because it rumbles like mad on speeds 2 and 3. it's seems quite old and full of grease. But I'm struggling to find anywhere that sells one - I have found one or two for ~£250 - which is dearer than some full new...

DAB radio in a VW Golf mk 6

I hate to say it, but we have a golf MK6 and it's the worst car stereo I've ever had. The DAB is pants, it crashes/restarts all the time and the SD card reader stops being any use with more than about 2GB of mp3s.. yes - it has a colour touch-screen, but at the cost of being useful!! The...

    cracks in plaster.

could it be that the vibrations have caused you to inspect and therefore notice the cracks? I've been in a similar situation - luckily I checked some photographs (that just happened to have the wall in focus) and noticed they were there all along. I would say that a crack indicates...
