Hi,

Generally speaking, would it be a builder or a window and door company who would be best placed to knock out a new external door, and install some patio doors where I currently have a window?

Builder.

Bear in mind that a window installers FENSA registration does not cover work involved in adapting the wall, damp prevention or lintel support.

Anyone who is suitably qualified. Some window fitters are au fay with these kinds of works, just as some builders are not very good at fitting windows .......
