    35mm waste pipe - 90deg elbow?

Hi, I'm fitting a new basin to the downstairs cloakroom. The output from the bottle trap is a 35mm chromed pipe, and in the cloakroom I have a 35mm plastic waste pipe. I need to connect the two together using an elbow (as the output from the trap is horizontal but the existing waste pipe...

    Intermittent water pressure upstairs

Thanks -- I'll give it a once-over next time I'm up there. It hadn't occurred to me actually - my last place was mains-fed upstairs for cold water. Can't see the advantage of a header tank to be honest?

Lighting circuit change - safe / legal?

Hi, I was wondering whether the following change is safe and/or legal. To be honest, I'm not overly bothered about the legality of it as long as it's safe! I currently have two ceiling lights on a single 2-gang switch. I want to combine them on a single switch (they're 60w incandescent...

    Intermittent water pressure upstairs

Hi, Moved into a new house a couple months ago. I've noticed on a couple of occasions that the water pressure on the 1st floor is very weak. To the point where it just dribbles out the tap. When left for a while, the pressure seems to return, but with a coughing and spluttering as if there...

    Drainage relocation

I haven't lifted the lid due to the vast quantity of horse shi... er, manure covering it! I phone the water board; as it's on my neighbour's land it's nothing to do with them. So it's up to me to find a private contractor to do the work. One guy gave me a telephone quote of around £2k+vat...

    Drainage relocation

It's not as simple as just installing a cover - the land is raised about 4 or 5 foot above the road, so it would be a inclined drive. This gives a couple of problems: 1. The inclination is steeper than the drainage pipes coming from the house, so I think much of the drainage would need to be...

    Drainage relocation

Hi, I'm in the process of buying a house, and have spoken to the next door neighbour about buying a piece of land to use as a drive. He's willing to sell, but there are two problems: The first is that there is a telegraph pole on the public highway that would restrict access to the land...

    How much for a workshop?

And presumably it doesn't need planning permission, as it's not a permanent structure? I think I'll look into going down this route, as I'm confident I can build a shed myself, not so confident I could build a garage! Would be nice to work from some plans though - anybody know where I can...

    How much for a workshop?

Thanks guys - can you tell me what sort of timescale I'd be looking at for completion?

    How much for a workshop?

Well it's better than I thought! I expected to be looking at the £15-20k mark. £10k is difficult, but not impossible. Thanks for the info!

    How much for a workshop?

Bit of an open question this, but I'm only after a very rough estimate. I'm looking to move house at the moment, and have found a potential property. The only thing that's missing is a workshop. I think I can afford to buy the house, but not sure about getting the workshop built. I'm...

Clamp light for a reasonable price?

Had a look this morning, but can't find anything approaching what I'm after :(

Clamp light for a reasonable price?

This isn't really DIY, but I'm at my wits' end. I want to buy a shelf-clamping spotlight, like this one but without the ludicrous price tag. Lidl was selling some but my local branch was sold out by 9am this morning. Focus/B&Q/etc. just don't seem to sell this sort of thing. Can anyone help?

Condensation under suspended wooden ground floor

Okay - so I want to put down hardboard first, rough side up, to help level the floor. Then non-DPM underlay - the fibre board stuff. Then finally the laminate? I guess I'm just concerned that with no DPM, moisture can get into the laminate from below, and cause it to warp.

Condensation under suspended wooden ground floor

Thanks for the tip! I'm curious though -- surely the laminate itself will stop ventilation through the floor as it's a solid plastic surface?

Condensation under suspended wooden ground floor

Hi, I recently had to take up the laminate flooring on one of my ground floor rooms. The real floor underneath is suspended (about 6 inches) above the ground. When I put the laminate in, I first covered the floor with 6mm hardboard, panel-pinned at 200mm intervals. On top of this I put the...

    Ground floor ring tripping RCD

Not sure, the electrician isolated the stretch of wiring that's causing the problem, but until I get the floor up I won't know what the problem is. I suspect mice! I've been trying to get rid of them for a few weeks, but they're too wily for the humane trap these days, so it's time to bring out...

    Ground floor ring tripping RCD

There is one socket spur, but the appliances have been unplugged. There are no FCUs. The whole of downstairs is on one circuit (it's a small house!) I got an electrician out and he has sourced the problem, but didn't have the time to fix it yesterday. He's patched it up temporarily so that...
