One PIR connected to two alarm systems

OK, I get the fact that I will probably end up negating any insurance approvals of the first system just by bringing a custom solution into the picture. I can live that. But I do want the option to rip the custom solution out and just use the off-the-shelf one. Without having to do any rewiring...

One PIR connected to two alarm systems

No, I'm not mad. Well, maybe... Soon i'll be working on my house rebuild and want to install both a proper insurance approved alarm system plus my own custom built solution running my own software on a PC. The PC will be tied into various home automation bits and use various inputs to perform...

Main Eco Compact and Salus RT520TX behaviour

Video of Schedule menu. As you can see, all I can specify is a time point and a temperature. Like I said, this concept was alien to me but I can get used to it. However, my other issue with the twitchyness and lack of temperature trend monitoring before it sends an on/off signal is really...

Main Eco Compact and Salus RT520TX behaviour

Well the described behaviour concerning a lack of true (non-temperature based) on/off are valid across both units

Main Eco Compact and Salus RT520TX behaviour

The following reviews are for the 500RF but the comments about the lack of on/off are valid for me: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Salus-RT500RF-Programmable-Frequency-Thermostat/product-reviews/B003ERP1LE/ref=cm_cr_getr_mb_paging_btm_40?pageNumber=40&reviewerType=all_reviews.

Main Eco Compact and Salus RT520TX behaviour

The model name is confusing. IIRC, the website only shows 'RF' but mine is clearly boxed and labelled as 'TX'. If you download the quick guide you can see the reference to TX as if they are the same thing. I'll put up a video shortly showing the 'Schedule' menu.

Main Eco Compact and Salus RT520TX behaviour

Got a new Main Eco Compact boiler with the above wireless thermostat unit. I have been used to the classic Honeywell dial based thermostat all my life and conceptually I'm struggling with this one. As far as I can tell there's no time window one can specify either on the boiler or thermostat for...

Galaxy 2-12 reset - what about my wireless zones?

Thanks guys, you were right, the reset resolved my issues. Budnzeus, my bell does appear to be broken, what made you ask that?

Galaxy 2-12 reset - what about my wireless zones?

Hi folks, Just moved into a new home where we've inherited an unmonitored ADT fitted Galaxy 2-12. Upon setting the alarm we are met with a "comms failure" failure message, which we must bypass before being able to set the alarm. I have no engineers code, so looks like my only choice is to...

Simple (I hope) voltage drop/resistan over distance question

Done it! Had an old DC 12v to 5v convertor, so sent 12v down the telephone cable and converted to 5v nearer the unit. All working. Thanks

Simple (I hope) voltage drop/resistan over distance question

Thanks Simon, what you say makes perfect sense. I thing I might have had the solution all along (you jogged my memory), going to try it out today. Regards

Simple (I hope) voltage drop/resistan over distance question

Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions. If that is true, how do you explain something like alarm wiring (very similar to telephone wiring) that runs up to 25m from the power distribution point? The latter suggestion is a good one but wont work as there is now unfortunately...

Biasi M96.28SM/C intermittent ignition fault after bleeding?

And that was exactly the problem I had! A bit late, but thought I'd update all, in the end it was a faulty PCB. Replaced it after wasting time replacing the NTCs and Air Pressure switch. I know it sounds odd but the fact remains that the fault developed immediately after the above...

Simple (I hope) voltage drop/resistan over distance question

Hi, So, it's been a while since elementary electronics and I now have an issue I desperately need to resolve other wise I'm going to have to rip through a wall. I'm working on a project where I'm installing a USB based touch screen monitor (yes 100% USB based) that is situated 3m away...

Domestic lighting via a computer controlled relay switch

Hi all, House is undergoing major internal strip and rebuild so here's my opportunity to finally get some home automation in. Sparky is the old fashioned sort and although I trust him to do a good and safe job I think I'm going to have to coach him along for this one. I've come across...

Biasi M96.28SM/C intermittent ignition fault after bleeding?

Agile, with all due respect I have no idea what your talking about when you say bleeding a radiator will not help. :? In general situations, I have experience to say it most definitely does. Anyway, so the diagnostic lights indicated a faulty Air Pressure Switch which was replaced, worked...

Biasi M96.28SM/C intermittent ignition fault after bleeding?

Latest is that I found the light fault code which is pointing at a 'Faulty Air Pressure Switch'. Done all the electrical contact checks and there does not appear to be any fault.

Home security advice from a noob for noobs (Shock sensors)

I am writing this in the hope that DIY security noobs (I’m still one) might learn something from my (good) experience. Before I start, I admit there is no such thing as 100% security. A neighbour of mine got burgled having just spent upwards of £1,500 on a fancy new alarm system with...

My loft ones wouldn't heat up at all.

Biasi M96.28SM/C intermittent ignition fault after bleeding?

Actually, it's probably more accurate to say that it went down a tiny bit (to about 0.9) but is now back up to 1
