Weird result of changing shower isolator switch - anyone know why?

Hi. Thanks for reading. I have an electric shower (Mira Sport 9.0, rated 40A) and the isolator plate got damaged when decorating so I put a new one on. The old was a 45A plate and the new one 50A. Don't know if it's related but a couple of days later and the shower, which was never good at...

LP522 - is it possible to keep it and add a remotely-programmable room thermostat?

Hello. Sorry if this has been asked before - I went thru the FAQs and other thtreads didn't find it. I have an old Drayton LP522 which works fine. There is a mechanical wired room thermostat. I'm away a lot so would like to be able to adjust the thermostat remotely, but would be happy to keep...

Advice needed - cracks in wall next to window

Hi. Can someone help me with some advice please? I have a crack in the wall next to me kitchen window. It's been growing over the last couple of years. Today I notice that the bricks outside, above the window and presumably by the lintel (assuming there is one!!) seem to be parting company with...

I interfere with my own TV signal!!

Thanks guys I appreciate all the help. (Really. Not just saying it). Since my last post the neighbours have told me they're happy with their situation, well not happy but they'll tolerate it, so they don't want to spend to sort out our common problem. So... I buy might buy a separate aerial...

I interfere with my own TV signal!!

I've checked all the connections and all are sound. I've looked at changing it to three separate feeds and there isn't space down the conduit they run in for three. I could probably get two in but my downstairs neighbour isn't there until August so can't make those changes yet. Still looking...

I interfere with my own TV signal!!

Hello again. I've been back at my flat for a few days and have found the problem's not resolved. But from what I've seen this week it seems that most channels are fine (have strength around 94 quality of 100 yet work perfectly), it's 3 specific channels which are sometimes on strength 18-22...

I interfere with my own TV signal!!

Hi Lucid. I've been away from my flat since my last posting, have got the variable attenuator ready to use as soon as poss, and have got my neighbours' agreement to get someone give a price for putting 3 feeds in, 1 to each flat instead of the daisy chain. (I'd be happy to do it myself but...

I interfere with my own TV signal!!

I've looked at the signal quality & strength as recommended, and it's so interesting. On channels such as ITV/BBC HD ones I'm getting signal quality of 96-98% and signal strength of 100%, with no effect if I move around. On other channels such as BBC News HD (one of the problem ones) and some...

I interfere with my own TV signal!!

Thanks again. I'd assumed that 3 feeds off of one aerial would need amplification - is that not the case winston1?

I interfere with my own TV signal!!

Thanks winston1, I'll check the connectors on that lead. Yes, the daisy chain is done in the way you describe - next cable connected behind my wall plate and presumably the same again in the flat below to feed the ground floor.

I interfere with my own TV signal!!

Hello. I've looked to see if this has been asked before but didn't find anything - sincere apologies if it is an accidental repeat. I have a top-floor flat. Aerial in the loft above me, single feed serves mine and daisy-chains down to the two flats below. Aerial wall-plate on one side of living...

Low modulus neutral cure sealant advice needed

Hello everyone. I need to replace the sealant around my upvc doors & windows, the old stuff having gone grey and now showing visible gaps. Which are the best ones to go for (or conversely the ones to avoid), as there always seem to be better/worse products for any job! A decent DG company near...

Problem with Johno Water Based Undercoat

I opened a tin of Jo Water Based U/c after about 6 months and it's separated into some solid-ish pigment and no doubt other magic ingredients and some thin watery stuff. Have stirred....and stirred....and stirred....and now it's thicker but still with too many tiny lumps in to use. Anyone had...

Help! Lining paper seams lifting, even after re-pasting

Thanks cwhaley. I did that this morning when I noticed that each time I re-pasted a part even more of it lifted, so thought that when I painted over it all the paint might lift new areas. I'll use a stronger paste for the next lot, and a lighter grade paper that I'm more used to. Cheers!

Help! Lining paper seams lifting, even after re-pasting

Advice needed! I've put up lining paper, 1200 grade (heavier than I'd normally use), and left it to soak for 10 mins before hanging. But the seams are lifting in places. I've woked paste underneath again but they just lift again. Is there anything I can do to salvage it, eg like try to stick...

Crack in wall - how serious is this?

Hello. Foolishly I've started to decorate, and when I stripped a wall I found this crack floor-to-ceiling in a corner (see pics). This is the outside corner of the house - construction is block behind the plaster then brick, then fresh air, i.e. there's no other room or building outside either...
