    Gas supply

Can you build an extension over an existing gas pipe. The pipe is after the meter, i.e. presumably not the responsibility of the gas supplier. Is there a Corgi regulation on this?

    Ground Source heat pump

This is a good idea in practice, however the instant water heaters provide very low water flow rates (unless you get a 9 or 12kW version, but 4 or 5 of them in the house could be a heavy draw on the electricity supply) the heat pump is suppose to save money!! They are also not great for kitchen...

    Ground Source heat pump

Thanks for your comments, though if the circulator pump was only running during the 60 degC cycle would this not mean that the other times would not have the circulating HW facility, so only once a week would the water be circulating. Or will the 60degC water last a while?

    Ground Source heat pump

Has anyone had any experience with installing a domestic hot water circulation loop to a domestic hot water cylinder being fed by a ground source heat pump? The new house really needs to have a continuous HW loop as some draw offs are over 20m away from the plant room. As you all know, on a...

    Underfloor heating

I wonder if someone could help me please, I am considering underfloor heating but there are some timber floor finishes going on top which may be quite thick. The underfloor heating manufacturer say a maximum of 32mm timber floor finish should be installed. What are the ramifications if this is...

    Oil boiler help please!

I do take your comments on board There is no room for a separate cylinder and the capital cost is so much more. With the above comments in mind, I may opt for the mid-range size 18-25, therefore reducing the cycling times but still getting 18l/min HW

    Oil boiler help please!

Thanks Tony I think a combi boiler with only 1 bathroom is more efficient than a separate hot water cylinder, trying to maintain say 200 litres of hot water up to temperature instead of a combi where you heat only what you use.

    Oil boiler help please!

I am looking at a Worcester Greenstar Heatslave Oil-fired combi for our house, there are 3 different models (12-18, 18-25, & 25-32) they all offer different hot water flow temperatures, and it would be the larger 25kW - 32kW model that I would like to have due to the improved HW flow rate...

    Oil tank location?

For all oil experts, what is the minimum OFTEC distance an oil tank can be located alongside the house, the wall it would be located adjacent is an outside wall with no windows with no eaves above, if this is classed as a 'non-combustible' wall could it go upto 300mm away? Many thanks

Slow Broadband - 10m long cable!

Great, thanks for the replies. I think I shall keep the router downstairs adjacent the incoming socket and extend from that point with a CAT5 type cable. Thanks

Slow Broadband - 10m long cable!

Hi, I have just moved my sky broadband router upstairs which means the telephone cable is now over 10m from my main entry telephone point to the router next to my comp. I have the highest speed broadband package. The broadband seems to be quite a bit slower than it was when it was located...

    Gas meter size?

Looking to put a separate combi boiler in an annexe extension to the side of my existing property. However I am unsure as to whetehr the existing domestic size U6 capacity gas meter will be adequate to take the full load of both the new combi and my existing boiler system. The new combi will...

Glow worm 30ci. radiator heats up when shower is used?

It is most likely that radiator could be on the hot water circuit, i.e. on whenever the hot water is on, regardless of whether the heating is off

    air source heating

[/url] These heat pump companies are trying to introduce models which provide higher temperatures, however they fail to say by how much the COP (efficiency) is affected. Air source heat pumps on a good day, producing say 35degC are around 300% efficient. Producing temps of 80 degC that...

    Oil tank

Why don't you think more out of the box, how about putting the £2K (or whatever the cost is likely to be) towards the cost of an air source heat pump to run the existing htg and hot water. There are grants available too if you have a look on the Low Carbon Building Programme website. This runs...
