What is this "mesh" around my ceiling?

Filling the edges than sanding will look terrible however well you do it. I wouldn't get sand paper anywhere near artex anyway. Get it skimmed, it's probably £120 for a couple of ceilings to be done.

Should I remove the lathe and plaster ceiling?

Can you remove the flooring above the ceilings? If so, give the ceilings a vacuum, to remove the loose dust, then smash them from above. Seal the door with masking tape, spray water to catch the dust and open a window. It's going to be messy whatever you do but you can reduce it a lot...

    Engineered oak wooden floor bulging

Try taking some off the other side of the room too - if the whole thing is expanding it can't expand against the adjacent wall, so creases where there is a chance to move.

    Removing floor tiles, possibly asbestos?

How much cost/aggro is it to get fully PPE'd? I can't tell if they're asbestos from the photos but don't risk it for saving a tenner.

    Wrong paint used on wood

Thanks. It's freshly sanded and had knotting solution but now has a light mist cost. I'll get it a light rub then undercoat.

    Wrong paint used on wood

Someone has tried to be helpful and started painting some un-primed timber with very watered down emulsion. They missed the can of "wood primer" I left next to the painting tools. What should I do to rectify this? Let it dry then sand-down or just paint over with wood primer?

Hot water: yes - heating: no

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't posted much info because I thought I knew what the problem was and was expecting a series of "yes, great place to start checking". Turns our it was an issue with the wireless programmer. I've now got the heating going but it's on along with the hot water...

Hot water: yes - heating: no

I'm able to get hot water but the heating isn't working. I've suspected a faulty 3 port valve in the past - is that a reasonable starting point to check the issue?

    Fitting a stainless steel splashback

All done. Used a couple of wedges on top of the upstand to even-out the gap between the upstand, splashback and extractor fan. I put a load of silicone in the back splashback, applied to the wall then rested a length of timber to hold it. It's not fallen off yet.

    Fitting a stainless steel splashback

Very sorry - I did indeed edit the measurement. Thanks for the advice, looks like lots of people recommend silicone. I don't want to rely on the upstand for support but can do that - I need to run a silicone need between the splashback and extractor so that'll help too. If I'm using...

    Fitting a stainless steel splashback

I have a stainless steel splashback to fit to a painted wall and don't want to use screws. Are any adhesives or silicone suitable? It's 600mm x 750mm and 1.2mm thick, so quite heavy

Asbestos Cold Water Tank Won't be removed by my landlord

As long as it's not being broken into dust it's fine but I'd want it gone for peace of mind. Ask them how it's being moved and bagged - is someone with the right skills doing it? How are they planning to contain the dust if any gets released when bagging it? Make a fuss of it.

"Wrong" run on pipework - is it a problem

The problem I'm trying to resolve is a slow drop on pressure - the engineer they sent says it's the pressure release valve letting-by water. I'm not sure whether water sitting at the back of the valve has damaged it but they haven't suggested that's why there's an issue, just that the...

"Wrong" run on pipework - is it a problem

Thanks for the replies. My reason for asking is that I have an insurance policy with Homeserve and they're refusing to do any work on the system until the pipework is altered. I was hoping the responses would be that the pipework running upwards isn't really an issue as all it does is...

"Wrong" run on pipework - is it a problem

I have a pressure release valve as part of my system and the pipework on the exit side runs up into my loft, then out the fast a board. Are there real problems with the pipework running up? I assume it "should" run downwards to benefit from gravity but does it matter? Is it a passive part...

    Electrical fault or washing machine

After much sodding about, it seems to be pulp related. When there a full load (particularly lots of moisture holding materials) it's more likely to fail. If I remove some clothing and run a "drain" cycle it generally runs fine on spin. I had to move the waste and found the pipe was clogged...

    Recommendations for kitchen strip lighting

Hello I'm planning to put a c1m set of strip lights in a glass fronted kitchen unit and also need c4m of strip lights to fit behind a glass panel. There zillions of options on eBay etc but I don't know what's suitable and decent quality. Do I need to worry about moisture resistance? It's...
