No hot water coming from taps

Thanks. Found a couple that are pretty similar to my situation so I'll get a piece of hosing and give it a shot. Cheers.

No hot water coming from taps

Hi there I am getting no hot water coming from any taps which I assume is related to my playing with the system earlier. There was a leak from a radiator so, rightly or wrongly, I turned the stop cock off, turned all the taps on and drained all water from the pipes (I didn't drain the hot...

    Concreting over copper pipes

They have been run already and there's not much room between the top of the pipe and the level of the floor so any large piping wouldn't work. The pipes run under the rad so I may be best leaving them exposed and fixing timber to support the new wood flooring when it goes down. I doubt they'd...

Rads not heating unless TRVs on high level

It may be they're getting to temperature then shutting off but my uneducated feeling was they're just not switching on - I'll give that a shot after bleeding the system fully again. Do I start with any particular rad when bleeding? ie ground floor or top floor first?

    Tiling over old lino tiles

iwaters - seems like you're with me on the removing. I've taken some artex ceilings down with a good mask, damping down, bagged straight away etc but there's so much dust everywhere it makes me nervous - anything to avoid further contact. To fix the ply I was going to get a Paslode with a...

    Tiling over old lino tiles

Thank you. I haven't lifted all the carpet yet to check how well stuck they are - from a couple of patches I checked, they lift easily. What's wrong with the ply option out of interest?

Rads not heating unless TRVs on high level

I haven't been particularly systematic about bleeding the rads but they have all been bled a few times (we're refurbing so have taken rads off walls when plastering etc). They were all bled a couple of weeks ago and the problem is still there but if that's a likely issue I'll give it a go again...

Rads not heating unless TRVs on high level

About 1.3 If you're suggesting it's pressure related, I have had dropping pressure but thought I found the leak so hadn't considered this the problem now.

    Concreting over copper pipes

I have some copper pipes, for the heating system, that need to be covered over. The rest of the floor is concrete so I was going to back-fill with more concrete (over 2" deep and 4" wide over a 2m run. Will the cement damage the pipework? Should I protect them with something?

    Tiling over old lino tiles

Our kitchen floor has lino tiles (probably from 1978) on a concrete floor. The tiles have a bitumen-type backing so probably contains asbestos. I don't want to rip the tiles up, because I'm asbestosphobic, so considered laying some thin plywood over the area. Any other solutions? I assume...

Rads not heating unless TRVs on high level

My radiators heat very little (almost stone cold) unless I turn the TRVs past setting 4. Any ideas why this would be? The TRVs are Drayton, it's a pressurised system in a town house with the same issue on all radiators.

    Light fittings vs insulation

I've just replaced a plasterboard ceiling and stuffed insulation across the whole room. I hadn't considered leaving air flow for the light fittings - what's a sufficient space to leave? A fire isn't desirable. I can't bear taking sections back down so hope drilling a hole through the...

    Plastering interior block wall

Thanks for the plastering advice. Seems most forums have geeks having cyber wars. Enjoy.

    Plastering interior block wall

I'm doing the prep work before skimming a wall. It's made of block and when I wet it, the water seems to get sucked in very quickly. I've applied some bonding plaster but some areas it's pulled away easily - I'm not sure if it's poor mixing/technique or that the blocks have sucked the...

Granite slabs over a concrete base

I’m planning to lay some granite slabs over an existing concrete base and wondered whether it will work or if I’m going to have a knackered patio. The existing base has some cracks in it - 4 or 5 running fairly straight (by which I mean not loads all over the place) so I wondered whether this...

No pump, no pressure - no problem?

The drop in pressure seemed to be after the ticking stopped, so I assumed the two were related. I can't find any leaks - no drips and no damp stains. How else can I locate one?

No pump, no pressure - no problem?

Hello My pump was making a ticking noise that got louder when I turned it up but that's now stopped (assume its completely failed rather than fixed itself). I also have no pressure in the system that drops from 1.4 to zero in around a week. Other than those issues. I don't have any...

    Replacing a ceiling

An interesting looking item. How stable are these? I'd be nervous about the plaster cracking if there's too much movement - the ceiling already bounces a lot and an additional three layers of materials will add to the wobble affect. If I tear down the existing ceiling is the benefit gone...

    Replacing a ceiling

Thank you - very helpful. The idea behind the ply was to strengthen the easily vibrating floor and to add a sound barrier. Not heard of resilient bars so will investigate.
