    Painting Steel Cabinet

Hi thanks for all the advice. Hoping to get it looking good enough for inside, it will go in the garage if not. Planning on spray painting it. The previous attempt at repainting was brushed on and it looks terrible.

    Painting Steel Cabinet

Thanks for that. With rust should I just aim to remove any loose bits before painting then?

    Painting Steel Cabinet

Hi, I've been given a steel cabinet and was going to have a go at painting it. Its been repainted once quite badly already by the looks of it, also some surface rust and a few spots of more serious rust. Wanted to ask for advice about preparing and repainting. Started sanding as you can see in...

    Help New Boiler

Thanks for your replies. Pleased to have someone say the Alpha is alright. I had a look at their warranty it doesn't look much different to Worcester's so hopefully won't cause huge problems if I have to use it. Razor do you know how much difference it makes to have a more efficient thermostat...

    Help New Boiler

Hi, 17 year old boiler is becoming very temperamental. I'd like a new one and opted for one of the online retailers - BOXT/boiler central/heatable as the plumbers I've spoken to locally are busy or not available for weeks. After some sensible advice about a combi boiler for a two bed/one bath/6...

    Indesit DIS 04 Dishwasher

Thanks. That's a shame you can't buy it separately. The first picture is the one I took out. I was hoping the second one had the same part in it. The whole dispenser is about £60 so might not be worth it.

    Indesit DIS 04 Dishwasher

Hello, The detergent drawer has stopped opening on the dishwasher and rinse aid isn't going in. After some googling I found it might be something called a solenoid that controls the drawer opening. I've taken it out and the circuit tester says it's broken. I wanted to ask about the correct...

    Relaying Quarry Tiles

Hello, I'm hoping for advice about relaying some Victorian quarry tiles in my kitchen. I've removed an internal wall and the DPM and concrete the rest of the floor is on doesn't cover that area - see photos. I'd like to patch this area with some of the same tiles. What's the best way the do...

Sebo Automatic X4 - Burning Smell

Hello, My 10 year old Sebo X4 made a few rattling noises and now makes a burning smell when turned on. I took it apart and there was a part that had come off. I've tried to show where it came from in the photos. From googling it its a capcitor and they can be bought on ebay for about £10. I...

    Space Above Gas Hobs

Hi, thanks yes I'd misunderstood the regulation. You can have wall units either side of the hob provided they're more than 460mm above the bench top.

    Space Above Gas Hobs

Hi, Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I'm having a kitchen put in and I'm confused by the regulations about space above a gas hob. The kitchen designer tells me that there should be 50mm either side of the hob without wall units for fire safety reasons. The hob is 590mm wide, then 50mm either...

    Worktop Over Integrated Kitchen Appliances

Hello, I'm installing a kitchen with integrated appliances next to each other. There's no way round this as it's quite a small kitchen. Do I need a panel between them to support the worktop or can the worktop rest on the appliance as they're the correct height? Its a dishwasher and washing...

Help Identifying Part - Vax Rapid Power ECJ1PAV1

Hello, A part in the brush drive mechanism of my Vax Rapid Power has corroded causing a belt to snap. The bearings have got corroded and seized up, I can't get them moving. I can't find a replacement or even what it's called. There no serial numbers I can see. Does anyone know what the part is...

    Glue for Engineered Wood Floor

Hi, I'm hoping someone can suggest a suitable glue for tongue and groove engineered floor. It's reclaimed so I don't know what the manufacturer would advise. It's 22mm thick with 6mm oak surface. Concrete subfloor, planning to use vittrex underlay boards. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

    Reclaimed Parquet Floor

Hi, I'm planning a parquet floor for the downstairs of my house. I was going to use the standard tiles but I've been given 30m2 of a smaller tile 120x24x7mm - see picture. Does anyone know why they aren't commonly relaid? I can't find anything online about relaying them. Is it just they're...

    Boiler Leak while repressurising

Thank you all for the help. It sounds like I need a new drain/isolation valve then. I'll be more careful in future, it wasn't an axe it was a pair of pliers. It was all I had to hand and there was quite a lot of water comming out. Not that turning it made a difference. Thanks again.

    Boiler Leak while repressurising

Hi sorry I wasn't clear and the photos aren't that helpful. Its the thing to the right of the drain cock that is leaking. I figured out how to put an arrow on the photo now. It can be turned through 90 degrees, I thought it was an open/close valve.Thanks.

    Boiler Leak while repressurising

Hi, A valve on the CH return started leaking while I was repressurising the boiler. This may have been why it needed repressurising but I hadn't realised. Is it possible to easily replace the valve or should I get a plumber to do it? It leaks whatever position its in so I've drained the system...

    Smart Thermostat

Hi, I've bought thermostat that either doesn't have or I can't find a wiring diagram, it looks straightforward but it's not something I'm familiar with. Any help would be much appreciated. It's a Moes bht-002-gclw. My current timer/programmer is a Hortsmann Channel Plus H17XL: Left to right...
