Consumer unit change - needs isolator fitting?

Hi All, I need a new consumer unit - the old one is a Square D, and I need an uprated mcb for a more powerful shower - anyway, the electrician says I need to have the supplier come out and fit an isolator and the work should be free of charge... he also said its illegal for him to pull the main...

3/4 union fitting on old rad, new rad thermostat won't fit

Re:wrapping the ptfe... If in doubt, look on youtube for a demonstration! You asked: "For draining one rad down would I need to worry about adding inhibitor back into the system?" Well, what I did recently was to capture the drained off water, filtered it through a sheet of Plenty kitchen...

3/4 union fitting on old rad, new rad thermostat won't fit

Yes, but it's good practice! - to get accustomed to that sort of activity - once you've done it once or twice its no longer a big thing. Hopefully you put plenty of ptfe wraps on the tail. If you do have to remove the tail then it's best to rewrap the threads. Do look on youtube for best way to...

3/4 union fitting on old rad, new rad thermostat won't fit

No, you'll need to undo/loosen the nut from valve to tail b4 tightening up the tail (I take it that the new tail's got flats for a spanner, not internal hex for an Allen key, unlike the older union tail..)

Rad bracket fixing on tiled plasterboard

Hi All! Am replacing a smaller imperial sized rad with a wider metric one. The old rad brackets are attached directly onto plasterboard with those anchors that you attach with a setting tool. The wall is now tiled with ceramic tiles , except where the brackets are. (I tiled around the...

Changing BSP Valve to 15mm TRV

Hi, just to explain about BSP sizes: ½ inch BSP actually measures ¾ inches OUTSIDE DIAMETER, and ¾ inches BSP actually measures 1 inch OUTSIDE DIAMETER....! Yeah, I know! The BSP refers to the INSIDE DIAMETER of the pipe. That rad valve of yours looks like a ½ inch BSP connection to the rad...

Anyone identify this make of stopcock

Hi All! My rising main stopcock or stop valve has started weeping from the gland nut all of a sudden and after years of being OK. Basement exterior wall can’t hold a plug; what is this material?

Dunno if this will help, our house has interior walls of soft cement blocks that have the texture of an Aero chocolate bar. You need to use a special plug, BUT my neighbour has a method he's recently revealed to me, and that is to plug the hole with car body filler or that wood filler you mix...
