    Fire protection

Thank you Woody. Yes it is within 1m of the boundary unfortunately The building notes I have specify 90mm celotex between the 150 studs. The builder starts in two weeks but I have found quite a few inconsistencies with the drawings and the building notes and also what the building inspector...

    Fire protection

Hi guys, Quick and easy. For a timber frame first floor we need 6mm fire resistant board like Supalux to provide 30 mins protection. Does this board just go on the outside or does it also need to provide internal protection as well so used on the inside also? Our design at the moment looks...

    Worried about Builders Work

36 years and you don't think there is any room for improvement. wow. You are right I have little experience just like other Joe Publics. We rely on people such as yourself for professional advice. The bottom line is the OP should have been able to trust the builder. The internet hasn't always...

    Worried about Builders Work

I'm going through the process now so am quite aware of what certain individuals (builders, designers and building control) get up to. To say everything is fine and enforced adequately is laughable. Unfortunately the credible skilled individuals on this site are few and far between in my...

    Worried about Builders Work

There needs to be much stricter regulations for builders, designers and building control for that matter. There isn't enough protection for Joe public who doesn't know the ins and outs of the building trade.

    Brick skin versus Tile

Hi everyone, Been a while since I've posted on here. Feels like it has been forever since we started plans for building over our existing single skin garage. Anyway work starts at the end of the April but just wanted to ask a quick few questions. In a nutshell the plan is to create a timber...

    Another Howdens Quote

Thanks for your replies. The lack of transparency with the quotes is very off putting if I'm honest. I'll try DIY kitchens and Benchmarx next. I thought the price felt high. It's higher than wren so I knew something wasn't right :)

What o rings for this heat exchanger

It is leaking. You can see green stuff where it leaks. Only leaks when the boiler has cooled for around 4 hours.

What o rings for this heat exchanger

A gas safe registered engineer is doing the work. I haven't yet ordered the part but thanks for the heads up. I am aware who can do the work within combustion chamber and that is why I haven't gone near it. I may source a new part depending on price. I don't want to replace my boiler just yet...

    More radiators = new boiler?

There is a small leak in my current one as per posts above.

    More radiators = new boiler?

Thanks. I am thinking if I can replace the heat exchanger (obviously not me doing it) then it might be good for a few more years with the extension. For it to be economical I'll need to get a refurbished one and find someone to fit it and doesn't charge a ridiculous amount. Mpn is 5112431.

    More radiators = new boiler?

True. Currently we can only run 1 hot tap at a time. Can some combi boilers allow for more?

    More radiators = new boiler?

Thanks guys The towel rads are small. The house currently heats up very well and the boiler doesn't burn for that long. There isn't a HW cylinder. To complicate the matter when the boiler goes cold for say 6 hours the primary heat exchanger leaks slightly. (As per another post I made a few...
