    New Radiator, persistent leak!

I consider myself to be a proficient DIY'er and have good plumbing skills. However, I'm now on the 4th time of removing my new towel radiator in an attempt to stop it leaking! The radiator has threaded ports to accept unions that came with the valve. These unions are hollow and tighten with a...

    Shower Tray Repair

DIY. What difference does that make? There'd be a lot of work in replacing the tray now to be honest, it's tiled in and mostly complete. If you are suggesting what I think you are suggesting, it would be completely disproportionate and wasteful to replace the tray. To clarify, this is a...

    Shower Tray Repair

I have a new white 'resin bonded' shower tray (Just Trays JT40) and, during the installation, I have manged to damage it. Luckily, the damage isn't very bad. 2 small chips, less than 1mm deep, but there is a shallow dent about 5-8mm round. I spoke to the manufacturer of the tray, who want £50...

    Thermalite Blockwork - Internal Rendering/Plastering

I'm a typical worrier and leading up to the plastering being done I have committed the Google research crime just to check I am doing it right. I've read about Thermalite blocks drying the render out too quickly and the finish cracking etc. I have a couple of individual walls...

    Thermalite Blockwork - Internal Rendering/Plastering

So, we are getting close to having a Plasterer in to do our internal work, but the walls are built from Thermalite Block. I know a lot of people prefer dot/dab, but I don't really like this method due to the problems fixing stuff to the walls etc. Is rendering a really bad idea? Any help...

    Copper Pipe in Screed

I was just chatting to my Wife about Denso tape and wanted to show her it. I had to post this link for your entertainment. It's not flying the flag for using this stuff!! http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/denso_tape.htm Enjoy.

    Copper Pipe in Screed

The cable tie ends have already gone! I left them on as it made it look a bit more comical for the photo. Thanks. :D

    Copper Pipe in Screed

Thank you, I will try that. I had wondered it plastic over the top, like DPM or similar would do it. :D

    Copper Pipe in Screed

Excuse me? I have read the replies, hence me suggesting that I will need to take some other measure to protect the pipes. I think I will try to get hold of some sort of thick PVC U-Channel that I can put over the pipes, this will prevent the screed from reaching them. When all is said and...

Shower hot water not as hot as bath tap...help needed

I'm not a pro, but my guess is that the valve has some kind of safety built in where it can't exceed a certain temperature, so mixes some cold in.

    Copper Pipe in Screed

If you mean a fall, yes it has. It is only just over a metre long. Thanks for your replies everyone. My main worry isn't future access, but I am worried about the screed corroding the pipe, so perhaps I am going to have to put some sort of capping over the pipe before the screed goes down...

How long should you have to bleed your rads for once drained

I usually bleed mine initially, with the system off, then revisit after a few days once the system has run and had a chance for any other air to make its way round the system. I can usually get some more air out the second time, albeit not a lot!

    Copper Pipe in Screed

God knows I've looked and looked, but cannot really decide on what to do here. I have laid heating pipes into my new extension. I took care to make sure that there were no joins in the part that will be buried in screed. All pipes were clipped nicely and have been lagged using normal foam...

    Shower Outlet/Hose Question

Thanks for the reply Burnerman. I just don't understand why the design of the shower hasn't accounted for this. To get it so that the shower head can't reach the tray, the outlet would have to be almost at eye level, completely different to the pic. Is it possible that the shower valve could...

    Shower Outlet/Hose Question

I am in the process of fitting a concealed Shower Valve, which has a separate free-mountable terminal for the Shower hose to connect to. This exact one in fact... Do I need to be concerned about the fact that, when mounting as shown in the picture, the Shower Hose/Head could essentially...

Central Heating - 15mm or 22mm - Now With Diagrams!

The boiler is not on the ground floor, it is in the loft and the pipes come down to ground level in 22mm on the current setup. For the new proposal, they will still do this, but just in a very slightly different place. They begin in the top/centre of the proposed diagram. Most of the rads are...

Central Heating - 15mm or 22mm - Now With Diagrams!

Well, we feel warm enough in the house, but for the size of boiler and relative small size of property, the heating does seem to take a while to get to temperature. Here is the picture of the current layout. Where the pipe comes down from the loft in 22mm is in the top left, everything in...

Central Heating - 15mm or 22mm - Now With Diagrams!

Seems to be a reasonably common question, but I need to ask it again in my specific context. We have a 35kw Valliant non-condensing Combi, installed in our loft. I can see the Flow and Return pipes are 22mm and I can see them disappear into the wall at 22mm as they come down into the living...

    Central Heating Pipework Branches

Our Central Heating circuit is 22mm pipe (feed and return), with the branches from the circuit to each rad, and back again, in 15mm pipe. Obviously, these branches vary in length but are mostly under 500mm. Having just added an extension, things would be much simpler if I don't have to bury 22mm...

    Ensuite water heating options

Dreadnought, As far as the gas pipework goes, I am doing the 'donkey work' only. The work will be completed, fully checked and signed off by a Gas Safe engineer. I do value my life and that of my family! Thanks for your concern. I'd be interested to explore your suggestion, I have to...
