    Cavity wall insulation.....

I have just had a local firm round and they have said that they will use 'Walltherm' Blowing Wool. They aren't worried about the quality of the brickwork and mortar in terms of their work and they said that damp-bridging isn't really a worry with this product. They are talking sub £400 for...

    Thickness of underfloor heating

The heating element itself won't alter the thickness by much, I used the loose cable and the cable/tile adhesive account for no more than 5-8mm. I am no expert though!!

    Rendering.....

Following on from my thread about Cavity wall insulation, we also plan to have the external walls rendered. It is a 3-Bed Detached Bungalow with attached garage, built in 1929. The red brick-work isn't in the best of condition and has been patched up in places, so it looks like we have no...

    Cavity wall insulation.....

Not sure if this is in the right section, couldn't see one more appropriate anyway!!! We have a 3-bed detached Bungalow, built in 1929. It is red-brick and the mortar is very crumbly (is that limewater based?). We are going to get it rendered as the brick-work is not in great condition. I...

    Central heating not hot enough!!

Out hot tap temp is quite good. At the moment, it is set about 2/3 of the way towards maximum on the dial and produces hot water that is just about hot enough so that you can't keep your hand under it for long. Not scolding though. I think the flow is quite good too. Our 1900x800 bath fills...

    Central heating not hot enough!!

Thanks for your constructive reply. It is in the hall, practically in the middle of the bungalow and not in the direct vicinity of a radiator.

regs on copper pipe under floor

Just a point to note, in my experience of forums, tick the 'search for all terms' box, then be specific with search keywords. That should produce better results. :D

    Central heating not hot enough!!

3-Bedroom 1930's Bungalow with cavity walls (not filled), loft reasonably insulated (not great though). We have a Vaillant Turbomax Pro 837e Combi boiler, fitted in the loft. This boiler is fairly high spec, producing over 105,000BTU's, but we still can't achieve our set temperature of 21.5°c...

    Wood flooring help, please!!

Oh, also, in the current warm weather conditions, what is the acceptable minimum time, if any, that I should leave the wood to acclimatise before laying it?

    Wood flooring help, please!!

OK, we have just purchased 15sq metres of Boen wood flooring. It is 15mm thick, engineered wood in 2.2 metre long, 139mm wide planks. We have just laid a brand new chipboard subfloor on suspended timber joists. We used 18mm P5, purely because it is what we had already and the height works...

    Fireplace construction......

We have a 1930ish 3-Bedroom detached Bungalow. It had a fairly traditional fireplace, which we have now removed as it had been molested anyway. We don't have a real need for an open fire anymore, but don't want to lose the feature. So..... We want to convert the existing opening to a...

    Under-tile heating question.....

Thanks Job_n_knock. I do indeed plan to locate the stat outside the Bathroom and and the connection will be made to the consumer unit by a good friend of mine who is a qualified electrician. I merely plan to lay the cable and run the wires. Thanks again! 8) No doubt Moz the almighty will...

    Under-tile heating question.....

Moz, your manner of so-called answering looks very retarded. I am a member on many forums and am quite happy to have a keyboard-style argument on any one of them, but I came here for open-minded advice. Whether you have professional knowledge or not, you replies are on a par with those of a...

    Under-tile heating question.....

You reckon? Appears to me that there is only one way and that is moz's way, well as far as he is concerned anyway. I came back to this thread detailing my desired game-plan as there may have been people wondering if/how I solved it. That's all. In actual fact, this was backed up by...

    Under-tile heating question.....

When I hear strories from Porcelanosa contractors of bathroom jobs costing several thousands of pounds, yet being laid on NON waterproof CHIPBOARD. Or if they are to tile/heat onto Concrete subfloor, the cement backer boards (if used) are not being fixed atall, I hardly think my job is a...

    Bathroom basin question.....

We have a wall-mounted cabinet with a gloss-white worktop, upon which we plan to fit the following style of basin..... https://www.brookwater.co.uk/Images_DesignerCeramicSinks/APS/in.situ.APS.L68.A.jpg It has no obvious fixing method, yet I cannot imagine that it is totally...

    Under-tile heating question.....

Thanks for your replies guys. We have opted to stick with the P5 Chipboard, but we have also gone for the 10mm 'Warm-up' boards too. When laying the floor, I will and keep the deficit between the adjoining floors as low as possible. With all the best will in the world it will end up with a...

summer's here - clear a windscreen of bug splats!

You know the answer?? Drive everywhere at under 40mph. Apparently that is the speed required to cause the untimely death and subsequent adhesion of an insect that contacts the front of your car!!
