    Fixing a slipped roof tile?

Hi One of my roof tiles has become dislodged during the recent storm and is currently sitting in one piece in my guttering. I have been ringing roofers who have quoted hundreds of pounds to fix as it involves using tower scaffolding to fit with H&S regs. One of the roofers suggsted I find a...

Is this plumbing charge fair - advice/help needed??

if i wasn't able to diagnose through lack of knowledge then no I wouldn't charge in that instant, I would however charge if i had diagnosed and you went elsewhere to get job done. I agree with you. I am not sure if the company will drop the charge and if not what to do about it. I don't...

Is this plumbing charge fair - advice/help needed??

Fair dos. I did explain the problem via e-mail to the company in detail (as you can probably expect from my long letter!). I was very clear and other plumbers have even advised correctly by phone. I did not sign anything - to be honest I was told by company that plumber would charge but would...

Is this plumbing charge fair - advice/help needed??

Thanks kevindgas. I completely understand that - but in this case there did not seem to be any expereince or good knowledge and plumber said unable to fix. Therefore if plumber could have done it (as all others can) - then all would be fine as knocked off price and no probs.

Is this plumbing charge fair - advice/help needed??

Yes - sorry it is a lot to take in. Not sure of blocked cold feed.... it is just the hot water coming out of the taps from the water tank/cylinder heater. Basically plumber advised (incorrectly and would have entailed more expense without resolution) and then charged. Yet three other...

Is this plumbing charge fair - advice/help needed??

Whoops - sorry. My hot water (no GCH) is limited in flow from all outlets -shortly after the roofer mended the flat roof and water tank lid (which is on the roof). So the general advice is its a gate valve problem or an obstruction from the roof work (which can't be proved conclusively of...

Is this plumbing charge fair - advice/help needed??

I have attached a letter I sent today to a DIY company in response to their request for one hours labour of £65 plus VAT. I hope it is self explantory - all names have been omitted. Am I right in my request or should I pay? I feel a little ripped off right now... Thanks Many thanks for...

How much to flush water system and clean storage tank?

Hi Just wondering if there is anyone who could estimate how much it would cost to ask a plumber to drain/flush my storage tank and clean out any debris? I have barely any hot running through the tap and it is also affecting the non mains cold water. This was after my flat roof was done...

Banging Pipes - No GCH - what is the cause?

Since my roof was refelted - some crap got into the water tank (which is on the roof). As a result the hot water has limited flow which I assume is a blockage. However more worringly is the loud banging pipes usually after flushing the loo. It has always banged but seems much louder now...

Is this is a leaking bath or my imagination :) ?

I live in a converted first floor flat and my partner lives in the top floor above me. Directly above my bedroom is her bathroom. Every time we flush the loo the pipes make a right old racket - knocking about. However this doesn't bother me - however last night I kept hearing a noise every 10-15...

Flat Roof - safe as houses? :)

LOL - Woody. Exactly. I am never sure who you can really trust these days. I only hope that if you offer further work to a tradesman he will ensure he does a good job.

Flat Roof - safe as houses? :)

LOL - liking your answer. It was a tradesman from rated tradesmen who did it. It was a very fair priced quote but nowhere in the region of £200! I did manage to get onto the roof and examine it afterwards - looked okay and watertight but hey I'm not a roofer. We had more sleet and rain last...

How do you clean out a water tank?

Thanks for this. Just one question - how do you 'open the mains feed and flush out the tank'?

Flat Roof - safe as houses? :)

I had my flat roof completely refelted last week as it seemed to be leaking through my bathroom ceiling. I am completely paranoid that the leak will return - do you think the recent heavy snow and light rain in the last week is a good enough test as it hasn't leaked since it was done? I know...

How do you clean out a water tank?

I have a water tank on my roof (not attice due to flat conversion years ago). I recently had my flat roof re-felted and the tank lid replaced. I think some gunge got into the tank while the work was going on as my hot water has been not running as hard since. The heat is fine - it just...

Leaking Roof - Any Help and Advice needed! Thanks

I have had a leak since October through my bathroom ceiling (which is a series of wooden planks). It is a top floor flat in a converted Victorian house so the roof is directly above. The roof above the bathroom where the leak is is a flat roof which also houses one of the water tanks (on the...

Odd leak from ceiling - can anyone diagnose?

There is no loft unfortunately - just a small space between the bathroom ceiling (attic conversion) and the roof. Not one you can access unless you rip the ceiling out.

Odd leak from ceiling - can anyone diagnose?

I have an odd leak from my bathroom ceiling (well its my partners) which first happened 4 weeks ago and then last night. Prior to both of these occasions my partner had the hot water on for several hours (overnight) rather than the usual 1-2 hours. Just before the first time my partner's hot...
