Splitting hot water supply to 2 radiators

Thanks for confirming. Do you reckon moving it to under the window would improve things? At the moment, I'm not able to do insulation, moving the radiator might be the quickest and easiest solution in the meantime (and I'm hoping someone will be able to confirm the potential gain I can expect...

Splitting hot water supply to 2 radiators

Hi My bedroom is very cold even with the heating on and I have a few questions about a potential permanent solution to this problem My bedroom radiator is currently on an internal wall, at a 90 degrees angle to the windows and then about 1.5m away. The windows take up the half the height of...

Gaps between walls - is this normal?

Hi Solid wall info came from my friend who does building work and this is what my landlord said about it previously: "I am not aware of (removed) having cavity wall insulation works undertaken to it.... (Removed) is of a concrete frame construction with brick / block cavity wall infill panels...

Gaps between walls - is this normal?

From reading online, I thought solid wall construction buildings didn't have cavity walls?

Gaps between walls - is this normal?

Hi I moved into a flat around a year ago and the bedroom has always been cold. The landlord is due to attend Thursday and do a temperature check but I noticed a few things I wanted to check about. Firstly, there is a disused socket on the wall facing the outside. I've noticed there is cold air...

Wiring question - single to double plug

Thanks for the quick responses!! The neutral only looks like that because I took the pic half-way between loosening up the existing connections and seeing how easy it was to install the new moulding :)

Wiring question - single to double plug

Hi I have a single socket plug I want to convert into a double plug and had a quick question about the wiring. I've attached a pic of the existing config - what confuses me is even though there are 2 earth pins, one is unused. For the double plug, would it just be a case of sticking both earth...

    Squeaky carpet - causes?

There's a spot in the bedroom that's particularly noisy and there I have to apply light pressure with the palm of my hand to hear a squeak which increases as I increase the pressure. If it's not the carpet, I suspect it could only be the underlay making the noise, given how lightly I'm pressing...

    Squeaky carpet - causes?

I'm not sure what kind of tiles they are tbh, having spoken to my friend who does odd diy jobs, he reckons it's a concrete floor with a tiled layer. I've attached a picture in case that helps. It does look ceramic Edit: looking back at some old pictures, the passageway doesn't have tiles, plain...

    Squeaky carpet - causes?

I had carpet installed just under year ago but have started to notice it's squeaking in certain places and was wondering what could be the cause. The original floor is tiled rather than wooden planks and the carpet was installed with underlay. It's rather annoying and I'm starting to notice it...

Letterbox draught - lost for ideas

It's definitely the letterbox - stuffed some carrier bags in there and voila, no more draught. I've narrowed the problem down to the top edges of the flap, will have to see what can be done to block it. Ideas welcome

Letterbox draught - lost for ideas

There are no gaps around the letterbox itself, the cold air is actually coming in from the edges of the letterbox interior, at the point where the bristles end and the plastic casing of the letterbox starts. I thought the letterbox was faulty so tried a replacement, but no cigar!

Letterbox draught - lost for ideas

Hi Following on from my previous post, I increased the size of the letterbox aperture using a jigsaw and installed one of these: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Ironmongery/d170/Letter+Plates/sd3275/Sleeved+Letter+Plate/p56975 My old letter face plate and brush plate were letting in...

    Very small letterbox aperture

Hi I'm trying to replace the external faceplate on my door as it's very drafty but I seem to have an aperture which is smaller than usual as I can't find sleeved letterboxes or push-to-open spring based faceplates which fit. The size is 21cm wide and 4.5cm high. Is this unusually small...
