    Recycling centre DIY waste charges

I emailled my local council again to ask for an update, the reply: So it's already being rowed back a bit. Depending on how you look at it, 2 x 50L bags 4 times in 4 weeks could be interpreted as lowering the allowance compared to the existing 1 bag per visit (with no limit on visits). No...

Just mix up an extra bit of tile adhesive (assuming you're using powder/cement based) and pad it out with that.

    Italy's Lampedusa pleads for help

I see this rhetorical framing a lot. 'Whether or not it's going to happen is not the question - you have no choice, it's just a cosmic force like the tides and they're going to flood into your country, all you can do is decide is how you're going to accommodate them once they're here'

    shoplifter defended by woke

Of course, but brazenly wandering into Target/CVS/Footlocker (US chains) and openly taking large amounts of high value discretionary/luxury items is a bit different to junkies shoving munchies up their jumper.

    shoplifter defended by woke

Twitter / X is awash with videos from California where shoplifters, either alone or in groups, brazenly fill bags with goods from the shelves and walk out unimpeded while the employees look on. This is due to police not responding to shoplifting under the value of $950 and for chain stores it's...

Removal of old overhead telephone lines

Hi, the previous owners of my house for whatever reason had 3 separate overhead lines to the house for a various telephone points. Since we moved in 8 years ago we haven't had a landline and don't intend to get one. These redundant lines are attached to the bargeboards which need replacing...

    Recycling centre DIY waste charges

Ours takes engine oil no problem and they have a bin for the contaminated 5L containers once you've emptied them into the big IBC. Last time I took a load of used filters as well, the bloke said to me 'we can't take those, you'll have to put them in your wheelie bin' Make it make sense!

    Recycling centre DIY waste charges

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere - I did search multiple ways and drew a blank. A bit surprising considering the nature of the forum but hey-ho. Anyway.... My local tip/Household Waste Recycling Centre charges for DIY waste - ceramics and rubble first bag is free, then charged...

    Transexuality

Not necessarily, non-religious male circumcision was the norm in the US (and still is, albeit perhaps to a lesser degree) and I assume in Canada too.

    Transexuality

Funny you mention Dr. Money. Very influential character and one who anyone who hasn't read up on him and his most famous patients, David and Brian Reimer, really should. https://www.simplypsychology.org/david-reimer.html...

    Jacob crouch

This bit from the BBC article got me most. Jacob died "in his cot, alone" on 30 December 2020 at home near Swadlincote, Derbyshire, having suffered a "living hell". RIP little fella.

    UK inflation worsens.

JFC no wonder the government and BoE can get away what they do if fillyboy is any indication of the general population's understanding of inflation numbers

Tiles falling off - new build

I see NHBC is somewhat similar to the third party warranty that 2nd had car dealers sell or bundle in - they frame it as a benefit to you, but since you already have statutory protection under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 it's really protection for them.

Tiles falling off - new build

Apart from the lack of tanking/sealing (or preferably using a proper tile backer instead of plaster board) there was crap adhesive coverage. Should be as close as possible to 100% in a wet area. Looks like this was ~50% coverage. Pretty crappy job all round. Needs completely ripping out and...
