    Removal of redundant gas hob

Hi there, Just a quick question... We have a huge 6 plate gas hob which takes up most of the kitchen, but doesn't work properly (its about 20 years old and only one hob works!) The old built in electric oven has been replaced with a free standing electric cooker which has a ceramic hob...

    Dishwasher plug question

Yes, it has a fused spur too. I can only assume it was done for space. I'll get a single socket and see if I can squeeze the new d/washer in using the plug.

    Dishwasher plug question

Hi all, Just got a new dishwasher to replace an old one. Easy job I thought. However, the old one was wired in direct to the socket (ie, no 3 hole socket) but the new one has a plug. Question is, is it best to put a single socket and plug the new one in, or cut the plug off the new one and...

Bath tap won't turn on fully

Thanks Sime. I read up on airlocks on here, and tried the 'turn on the hot and cold and don't let any water out" trick using the basin in the bathroom (as this is a mixer), and hey presto, problem solved. Thanks for your help!

Thanks Sime - I've done what you said and now the tap turns fully open and the hot floods out...for a brief few seconds... I presume I've now got an airlock? Whats the best way to cure that?! TIA

Bath tap won't turn on fully

Hopefully this is a simple question. The hot bath tap in my bath won't turn fully on. The cold is OK (they are two seperate taps). The suite is only about 18 months old :? The hot still works, but takes a while to fill up the bath! Tried descaling but nothing doing... Washer...

Really quick "concrete kitchen floor" question

Thanks for the replies. So can anyone see a problem with chasing all the way back up to the ceiling? (apart from potential probs when fixing the kitchen wall units), (even though they are channelled in straight lines etc) ? Or is this just a question of preferences? ie, there is no fixed /...

Really quick "concrete kitchen floor" question

Running new ring into kitchen that has solid floors. Whats the acceptable practice here? Do you channel back up to the ceiling and follow the ring round or do you run the electric cables down around the floor?? Sorry if this is stupid - but I'm having a, uhm "disagreement" with someone TIA

    Couple of questions...

Hi there I have a few questions for the members here... 1) I have a new kitchen going in with a halogen hob and an electric oven (existing is a gas oven) - ideally, would this need two switches on the CU for each applicance? (I'm afraid I don't have the spec. of the appliances to hand)...

    One way to two way

So - do I need to involve the hallway pendant at all? Sorry to ask, but if I do then that will be a NO NO as there is a wooden floor between that and the floorboards!

I don't understand my upstairs lighting circuit!

Thanks for the reply - I've put all the wires through but don't know where to connect them to. At the moment, netural and earth are in the netural and earth slots, and the live from the switch is in the pendant live slot and the other live is in the pendant loop slot

I don't understand my upstairs lighting circuit!

Hi there me again. I've been let loose upstairs today and have removed an old fan light from the spare room with a view to adding a new ceiling pendant and moving the light switch (currently behind the door). The light switch was actually just a blanking plate with live, earth and...

Got the double pole fused spur. One last question (for today! ) Is the 13 amp fuse OK in there or does it need a different fuse? Thanks again

    New light by front door

I would like to put a new switch and outside light by my front door, and would like to have some ideas on the best way to do this. Would it be best to spur off the downstairs main electrics with a fuse socket (similar to kitchen lights) or to use the light circuit? I know what I'm doing with...
