    Not sure about the plastic bits being ommited but the ping seems to be coming from the inside of the rad, but as fettlerman says it happens during heating and cooling.

    One of my radiators in the sitting room when heat going through it seems to ping as if someone is hitting it with a piece of metal. The radiator was new in the summer but has only started doing it recently. Any thoughts on this please.

    What should the thickness of plywood be for laying as a subfloor before having my vinyl layed, the plywood sublayer will be fixed to a chipboard floor which is slightly uneven at the joints what fixings shall I use ring shank nails or screws. Many Thanks Willie

    Thanks Roughcaster short term solution I think for now that is the extent of my ability, I will get it properly repaired and roughcasted in the spring months need to get it sealed pretty quickly with the weather good just now in scotland. Many thanks for your help.

    Thanks Roughcaster the cosmetic look doesn't bother me as I can't see it from the house and no one else can, the only thing that bothers me is the rain getting into the crack can I fill the crack with anything that would make it water tight.
