    Repairing arm on roof box

So this did actually get fixed - thanks for the help. At the last minute I myself decided on the course of action that Domdee sets out- it's not my roof box so wanted the owner to be able to undo it himself easily if needed (he's handy). I was looking forward to using the rivet gun, but have two...

    Repairing arm on roof box

Thanks John. I suspect I'll just do it myself then - Looks like it was held together with pop rivets before. I've never used a rivet gun before and would rather have someone with professed expertise do it and I pay, just to show the owner I've done what I can. But a rivet gun seems to be quite...

    Repairing arm on roof box

Thanks John. Any idea where I might take it to get it done?

    Repairing arm on roof box

Hi all I've borrowed a roof box and have managed to break the arm at the back which holds up the lid. Not sure how I broke it, I was super-careful with it as it's not mine, but broken it is. I attach some photos to show the damage, and would appreciate thoughts on how to repair it or what sort...

    metalwork for cross-battening ceiling joists?

Hi all. I want to cross-batten the loft space in my 1930s house before insulating and boarding. Headroom is not an issue - there is at least 3m in the main part. Sounds silly but how do I join the timbers when I cross-batten? Toe nail? Angle bracket? Truss clip? Up-side-down joist hanger? Any...

    Fixing a leaking sunroof (BMW x3, 2007)

To update... I got hold of some of that tape and had a play with it. It is serious stuff. If it doesn't work, I'll never get it off the metal. So despite the no doubt excellent advice on here, I've ordered some vinyl instead and will try that first. If it doesn't work I'll unleash the gorilla tape.

    Fixing a leaking sunroof (BMW x3, 2007)

Thanks all. The problem started about 3 years ago. I took it to a BMW garage who basically said that the proper fix is to replace the sunroof and the pipes, but that was an expensive job and tehy could instead just clear the pipes out and see how we get on. THey did taht and it was fine for 2...

    Fixing a leaking sunroof (BMW x3, 2007)

Thanks. The garage did that and said it was clear this time. It's a pity - it was a super-simple fix when we just had to unblock it!

    Fixing a leaking sunroof (BMW x3, 2007)

Good question. My concern is that it might overload it, and cause issues elsewhere. Although as you say - if they are working, tehre is no problem. If so, then what - a bit of silicone or something just to block up that one pipe at the sunroof end?

    Fixing a leaking sunroof (BMW x3, 2007)

I'm back. They don't sell it in store. Can't seem to find it anywhere having searched B&Q, Wickes, Screwfix, Homebase so - unless anyone knows wehre it is stocked - I'll have to order for delivery and do it next weekend.

    Fixing a leaking sunroof (BMW x3, 2007)

Just to be clear: presumably you are suggesting that I tape over the edge where the seals meet the bodywork on the outside? Any concerns that, because water was getting in, so air will get out and possibly cause it to bubble up and fail? I'm off to toolstation now to get some of this tape so...

    Fixing a leaking sunroof (BMW x3, 2007)

Hi all I've got an old x3 which has a large panoramic sunroof. I rarely use the sunroof. It leaks. a lot. This is, apparently, very common for this model. As I understand it, the problem isn't so much that water gets through the seals and into the car; but that the pipes that drain the water...

    Another MDF shelf question

Thanks- ill keep it simple then. As regards finish: ive been advised to use osmo door oil. Do i need to finish both sides, even where one wont be visible? And if so can i finish the invisible side with danish oil or something other than osmo? Osmo is expensive!

    Another MDF shelf question

Hi all I'm building some built-in wardrobes and using 19mm walnut veneered MDF for the internals. They are pretty basic wardrobes: approx 1.2m wide, with 2 hanging rails in each and a shelf above. There is a vertical panel in the middle of each wardrobe dividing the space into two, to support...

building to the boundary/moving the boundary

Hi all We have PP to do a two storey side extension on our house. It will leave a 1m gap between the extension and the extension to give access to the garden (and because the general rule is you want to stay at least a meter inside the boundary for a two-storey extension). On the other side of...

I need to build a fascia - how?

No sign on the inner wall which is a relief. I dont have access to a metal folder myself ( or at least not one large enough) but a company I've used before that sells metal roofing materials can do bespoke shapes at very modest prices, colour matched to the bi-folds. The benefit of going over...

I need to build a fascia - how?

Thanks Yes, this was the original plan. The issue my wife has is that from the upstairs bedroom window, the existing coping stones look really smart (and whatever I do will be permanent outside the bedroom window as we are not extending off that part of the house). Bolting the fascia to the...

I need to build a fascia - how?

Thanks all. In answer to the questions: The builder who built the extension laid the stones. But I'm not going to throw him under the bus here, the stones were specified by the architect and he was uncomfortable with the parapet wall from the off - he was completely up front about never having...
