    Lukewarm radiator

Thanks for your replies. I am not sure what exact model the boiler is apart from the fact it is an EcoTec. Think it's best to get the rad off to have a look and get rid of the TRV as it's not really required anyway.

    Lukewarm radiator

I have posted on here before about this but now have a further question I would like advice on please...... In summary...... halogen spotlight not working

Many thanks for all your help. Have decided to replace all 4 lights with the GU10 LED. Just as cheap as buying transformers and should be cheap to run. Also looks like a straightforward wiring job.......... PS - who is this Winston character - seems to have far to much time on his hands.

    halogen spotlight not working

Before I order the replacement transformer, I was wondering if a conversion to the GU10 LED lights would make sense. Would the installation be easy - would I just take the mains cables that run to the transformer out and connect to the LED driver. Is it that easy? Thanks

    halogen spotlight not working

Thank you for your help. I have managed to get the transformer through the hole where the bulb holder and bulb fit. It has 2 brown and 2 red wires going into it - we have 2 switches in the kitchen that control the lights. The transformer says it is dimable and although it is hard to...

    halogen spotlight not working

Our kitchen has 4 halogen spotlights in the ceiling. The bulbs are the type with 2 small prongs that go into a small round fitting with 2 small holes for the prongs. These have been very reliable over the past 12 years with only the occasional bulb change. Yesterday one of the four lights...

Hot water not getting hot enough

We have a Vaillant EcoTec boiler for our heating and hot water. It is a sealed system with a hot water tank. Heating works fine but hot water is not getting as hot as it should. It was fine last week and then we had the heating on for a few hours. The water gets hotish but not as hot as...

Cost of replacing bath with shower

I know it's difficult to say without seeing it but can anyone please give a ballpark for the following: Remove old bath and cap off taps. Install a shower tray the full width / length of where the bath was. Install a shower screen about half the width to allow an elderly person to simply...

Central Heating or hot water - not both

Sorry - it is a sealed system - Ecotec condensing boiler. All controlled by a timer in airing cupboard. It can have both heating and hot water on at same time or either one individually. Seems to go particularly wrong when both are on as neither rads or hot water get more than warm.

Central Heating or hot water - not both

We live in a 4 storey house with gas central heating and hot water. Vaillant boiler is in garage but hot water tank is in airing cupboard on top floor. This week we have noticed that when the system is set to heat rads and heat hot water tank the rads do not heat up. When hot water goes off...

    Washing machine hose leaks

Have just had a new washing machine from John Lewis. Came with the cold fill hose already attached to machine which I screwed onto the cold water feed. All has been Ok for a week but today noticed a pool of water in cupboard where cold fill supply is. The white screw threaded attatchment on...

leak from tap for washing machine

Thanks guys for all your help. It was the blue tap - removed the screw and took it off and it was cracked so turning it did not actually do anything. Isolated with pliers and now all unplumbed.

I have new washing machine arriving and am trying to remove old built in one. Old one is hot and cold fill so have succesfully disconected red hose from hot water supply by turning red knob, taking off hose and capping with brass nut. However I have tried same with cold but a lot of water is...

    Silavent bathroom extractor Fan

I have a Silavent DVF301 20W extractor fan that has packed up. The bathroom is about 4 or 5 metres from the outside wall. The current fan comes on with the light pull and has a separate isolation switch outside the bathroom. Obviously I am not looking to replace the ducting just the fan...

    Dudley Turbo88 toilet syphon

My toilet suddenly will not flush. I have taken apart the Dudley Turbo 88 syphon and there do not appear to be any tears or damage to the thin plastic membrane. It is attacked to the framework (not at the edges) and the frame / membrane move up and down freely when the chain is pulled...

    Kitchen radiator very cool

On the cool rad the pin does do something as I turned TRV to off and rad went cold. As it's a 4 storey house and heat rises we only need rads on lower 2 floors to be on - can I just close the lockshield valves on floors 3 and 4 to force hot water down to bottom 2 floors?

    Kitchen radiator very cool

Have taken heads off and given pin a tap. The pins do seem to move up and down and everything tight. On the cool kitchen rad the pipe at the lockshield valve end (which is fully open) is hot but the pipe at the TRV end is only slightly warm.

    Kitchen radiator very cool

Have checked the TRV's and am not sure they are doing anything. The ones at the top of the house are set to off but the rads are hot anyway.
