Floor joists - holes and bolts

The bolts definitely have to be at 90 deg due to the shear forces acting on them and the strength calculations involved. The size of bolt and quantity will depend on the size of joist. You need a structural engineer to advise. NB. May not cost as much as you think!

PVA/water 50/50 needed to seal the surface underneath. Stops the adhesive moisture being sapped into plaster etc.

    Property Developers

I can understand your frustration here. You have payed a lot for your new home and expect it to be 110%. There are bad apples in every profession. Looks like you have come across one of them. Please do not tarnish the whole industry with the same brush. There are many tradesmen out there working...

Waterproof bathroom/kitchen sealant easier said than done !!

best to use masking tape, 2 runs, 1 for each edge. Then fill with an evenish bead of sealant. Wet finger with fairy liquid and smooth it off then pull masking tape up while still wet, don't touch it for few hours. Can get stuff called silicon eater from B&Q to remove old stuff but I would...

    Patio

Hi, I want to lay a patio but there is an inspection manhole that is too high (it's a rectangle shaped chamber with a gulley in the bottom). Can I just get a bricklayer to lower it by a coarse and fit one of those special patio manhole covers? Thanks in advance!

Plaster coming away from wall, what should i do?

Definitely need to get the plaster sorted out. Tiling is only as good as the base you put it on. It's not so difficult to do. You could use plasterboard or an aquaboard instead of wet plastering, if your wall gives you the depth.

    attaching plastic soilpipes to cast-ironpipes

Just done one of these. Smash the unwanted cast iron section out, careful not to damage the section needed. Using a chisel carve out the old lead from the cast iron pipe careful not to crack it, it's a long job but keep at it. Then make sure it's all clean and down to the cast iron. Use...

    big PC problem?

No expert but had a problem similar before. It was due to installing free-ware. I'd do the same, try to repair with rescue disk? Then look at reinstalling Operating System if no joy.

    shed foundation

we have just done a base for a shed (light structure) 8' x 8' and it was 3" hardcore and 3" concrete. :) I guess if you have a problem with the ground (mine) then you'd be best putting a double this in. If it's really bad then seek help from a Civil Engineer. I'd agree with above and break up...

Hi, I have a thermostatic mixer shower fitted in my shower cubicle but the pressure isn't satisfactory. I'd like to increase it but don't know how. I don't want to replace it and the cubicle is new. Can I boost the pressure? I have a cold water supply to the shower coming from above ceiling (I...
