I want to remove a 3 pin round lamp socket - how??

Never had a lamp in any of the sockets so can't check. I've bought a new 1 gang, 2 way dimmer switch which I was planning on replacing the existing one with, is that do-able given all the extra wiring for the sockets? New switch only has 3 connections, how would that sit with the existing wires?

I want to remove a 3 pin round lamp socket - how??

Just had a look and they do run off the other switch, picture attached. Can anyone explain how this is wired up to me? It seems there is a switched live (red brown sleeve) and also a yellow wire with a brown sleeve coming in on it too? I presume the two brown wires take the live to the other...

I want to remove a 3 pin round lamp socket - how??

Thanks for the responses everyone. When you say these sockets might run off a lighting circuit, would that be switched on/off from the main light switch on the wall? The room has two main lights, operated from one dimmer switch that has two dimmer switches in it, the other switch appears to do...

I want to remove a 3 pin round lamp socket - how??

Hi, I'm wanting to replace all the existing white electrical sockets in our living room for brushed steel ones, thing is 3 of the sockets are the 3 pin round lamp sockets (same as in image) and I don't want to replace them with the equivalent steel one, I just want to cover them with a steel...

Tips on replacing a lead water pipe..??

Hello all, I'm about to start the task of replacing my lead water main with a new plastic one, and I'm looking for some advice on the internal excavations needed where the the pipe enters the house in the kitchen... (the external digging I'm ok with, I think). We've just recently finished...

Washing machine plumbing - advice needed.

Ok so I went away and learned how compression fittings work etc - so simple really! :) I've decided to just add the 15mm blanking disc into the nut and screw back onto the T, I presume the tapered end of the blanking disc with the recess in it faces into the T? With the flat end resting...

Washing machine plumbing - advice needed.

I'm tempted just to screw the blanking cap I have on the end of the whole lot and be done with it for sheer ease, but I'm gonna try one last time to get my head around this.... I'm so confused!!!!!!! So this 'olive', is it underneath the nut that's screwed onto the T? Or under neath the...

Washing machine plumbing - advice needed.

Thanks for your responses, in terms of 'cutting the copper tail', can you explain this in laymans terms? Looking at the photo can I not just unscrew the nut that's protruding from the T and the whole lot will come away, leaving a thread I can then just screw the cap on to? Why do I need to...

Washing machine plumbing - advice needed.

Is it accepted practice to just leave an old valve with a blanking cap on the hot end when disconnecting a hot feed pipe? Won't the pipe and valve that juts out off the main pipe hold water that could become... erm... stale?

Washing machine plumbing - advice needed.

You're correct, I'm not familiar with these fittings, haven't got a clue in fact - the only nuts and olives I know of are be edible variety! But if I got a professional in every time I needed a tiny job done I'd be both bankrupt and spend my life waiting for a plumber to come to a job they don't...

Washing machine plumbing - advice needed.

Thanks for the replies. In terms of replacing both shut off valves for modern replacements, do they simply unscrew and then replace with a new one? From the picture it seems as though there's a bit of copper pipe going into the valve rather than something with a screw thread? Do you think...

Washing machine plumbing - advice needed.

I'm looking to replace our washing machine with a new one that is cold-fed only and have a question regarding the plumbing. I've had a read through the forums for help and as my current machine is hot and cold feed, I have ordered a 3/4" blanking cap to cap off the hot feed pipe (I presume it...

Oven hood wiring idea - will this work??

Sorry i'm not sure what you mean about twin and earth? Is the portable socket not just the same as a one that screws to the wall, but portable?

Oven hood wiring idea - will this work??

If i remove the junction box and add the extension socket to the cable that runs off the isolation switch, then plug the oven hood into this extension socket am I good to go? There's a 3amp fuse in the isolation switch, and the plug on the oven hood will have a 3amp fuse in it to, so does that...

Oven hood wiring idea - will this work??

If the cable has an isolation switch on the worktop that it feeds from would it be classed as fed from a socket? And to answer your question... when I cut said cable away from the old oven hood there was a live, neutral and earth.

Oven hood wiring idea - will this work??

Can I not just fit one of the things in the image above? I don't need a socket above the units, I presume this would mean drilling a hole in the wall etc, I just need something to stick the oven hood's plug into, I don't mind if it's loose...
