    patio...log cabin...diggers and more

yeah, just a case of trying to do what I can rather than just admitting defeat and paying for it all lol. Don't mind paying if I can't do things myself though.

    patio...log cabin...diggers and more

Hi all, so, we've recently moved and the new house has a wide garden - it needs some love! at the moment it has a shed sat on a patio slab base. The base is flat but not level i.e. it follows the slope of the land. The shed is falling down and as such will be getting removed. Now, I've...

    is it possible to learn?

Hi all, so, i'm a Diyer - would never say i'm any more than that! we're going to be moving in December (finally) and the new house has a decent garden in which i'll be building a new pub/office which is pretty much what my current garage is used for. i've never build anything more than a...

    Flat roof construction

Well, i'm making progress. Roofing has been delivered for the bit above the wall. So will sort that this weekend, then onto the long bits. Need to do some more noggins before that though. coming along nicely.

    BBQ Extractor

hmm ok, see that's the thing.. A rooflight/hatch is £250, now I don't might getting it but if I'm then buying an extractor too I may as well just cut one hole for the vent and be done with it.. will look into some kitchen hoods. https://www.ecanopy.co.uk/BBQ-Extractor-Hood-1500mm-Motor this...

    BBQ Extractor

Hi all, so i'm currently building a roofed pergola. under a section of it I intend to put my charcoal BBQ and gas pizza oven. I had intended to get a couple of hatches, that completely open and position them above the bbq for when it's in use. But wondered if i'd be better served with an...

    Flat roof construction

Oh yeah was just a quick sketch - noggins will definitely be needed. Plastisol stuff requires 1.2m supports too

    Flat roof construction

Hi all. So, our side garden area is being rebuild to make a large bbq area with dining etc. I have been looking into roofing structures and was intending to go plastisol as it’ll allow for the 3 degree pitch that I can have in the space. I have however been advised that it’ll be noisy as...

    Bbq roof?

Ok cool so roof melting is no issue seemingly. just ventilation. I think I’ll ask builder to put some ventilation into the wall as above. Least it’s like having the window open. Then if I need more I’ll add a normal stainless hood too. definitely get an Alarm too!

    Bbq roof?

Yeah it’s a worry there. Looking at the ones with the required air flow they’re bloody huge! The area dedicated for the bbq can’t really be anywhere else, so it’s a case of roof or no roof over inside or outside. I might get the builder to do the below in the top of the retaining wall. Give...

    Bbq roof?

Hmm Not to mention the gasses given off. Don’t wanna melt the roof but also don’t want to die of gas poisoning. Just I see those big green eggs get used indoors. So hoped there was a solution but the pergola is enclosed by a brick wall on three sides, add the roof and I’m essentially grilling...

    Bbq roof?

Hi all, so we’re in the throes of redoing our patio and putting up a pergola - it’s a large thing built off the side of the house which I’m aiming to have one part for bbq cooking, and the other for bbq eating :) now, we really want a roof structure on it to allow us to use it most of the...

    Flat to Pitch roof costing

pretty much, I mean there will be more to it, but essentially yes. The garage is attached to the main house so it's not a standalone thing, but in essense yep. Loft space would be my office.

    Flat to Pitch roof costing

Hi all, so i'm now permanently home based (work wise) which means one of our rooms has become my office. It's ok but to be honest I need to be further away to get some peace and quiet :) a portion of our house has a flat roof - including the garage. I was wondering about the potential (of...

Room Heating - Gas or Electric

true but my costing was based on 11p/hr all year round - which should cover the cooling as well as the heating (or there abouts) in fact it does mean the radiator option would take longer to pay back as i'd only heat the space part of the year, then it's not being used - granted it's not...

Room Heating - Gas or Electric

true but would cost substantially more for me to run a radiator out there to save 4p/hr - so saves £1.80 - £2 a week. if we said £800 to do the complete job rather than £450 of the AC, I'd have an additional cost of £350, meaning 3.5 years before it pays for itself and that's if I ran it every...

Room Heating - Gas or Electric

ah this wouldn't be an issue really. it's flat roof so could either go up there or on the external wall, which is where we keep the bins anyway so no bother there

Room Heating - Gas or Electric

all things to be balanced really. I mean they suggest 11p/hr, that's already less than half the cost of an equivalent electric radiator. 11p/hr would be fine.
