Hi all. So, our side garden area is being rebuild to make a large bbq area with dining etc.

I have been looking into roofing structures and was intending to go plastisol as it’ll allow for the 3 degree pitch that I can have in the space.

I have however been advised that it’ll be noisy as hell in rain, which defeats the aim really as we want to use the space pretty much year round.

I was wondering about instead of this, is there any restrictions to putting a normal flat roof on? I.e do I need planning permission etc? Essentially it’ll just be a timber framed pergola with a decent roof, but it’ll be connected to the house so not sure on the rules there.

additionally, what is the £/m2 for a flat roof construction?

this area of the house is all flat roof anyway so it’ll tie in pretty well - I mean we could possibly look to connect it to the existing flat roof but that might be a massive undertaking. I was hoping to fit skylights to keep light in the adjoining room.

any thoughts

so in my little sketch - I’ve drawn an angled frame. But I wonder if a flat frame with proper roof would be better - then have skylights that open to keep airflow when bbq is on - and the end would remain open.

you’ll see from photo we’re making a wall instead of the fence I drew

I've just done a similar thing,

I used twinwall plastic sheeting with the glazing bars.

It says they recommend 5 degrees, however in my last house and my parents old house we had it at 3 degrees and it's never leaked.

I've just finished mine last week in the new house and that's at 3 degrees again because of height limitations.

The reason for this is so that plenty of light still manages to come through.

You may find with a solid roof as your discussing blocks out the light inside the house too much

Can you show me which one you used? Any links?

how does it fair in the rain? Noisy or bare able

Also you need to add some noggins to your drawing.

I bought mine from here, found it the cheapest place. The video in the link explains the roofing systems.

In the rain the roof does sound like a caravan, however it will sound the same with plastisol roofing also. If you go for thicker roof sheets the sound will be lessened

It's hammering down with rain at the moment I've uploaded a couple of photos of mine as it is at the moment.

We still need to furnish it properly etc

Oh yeah was just a quick sketch - noggins will definitely be needed. Plastisol stuff requires 1.2m supports too

I've tried to upload a video of the noise but keeps coming up as error.

Turbo looks good! I did something similar about 5yrs ago and in the warmer weather!!! we move our dinning to outside which gives us another room.
PS. I used opaque 16mm sheets

Well, i'm making progress. Roofing has been delivered for the bit above the wall. So will sort that this weekend, then onto the long bits. Need to do some more noggins before that though.
