Room Heating - Gas or Electric

Hi all, so, my garage is a bit of an everything room. I've insulated it so it's more comfortable and spend a fair amount of time out there playing darts/making homebrew/playing piano. My office is indoors in one of our downstairs rooms. It's ok, but noisy and feel like i'm in the middle of...

    what temperature?

thanks for that, that's ideal. I was looking at dehumidifiers, trying to find one with a wall pipe so I can just run it into the flower bed outside the garage. as much as it's ventilated, I perhaps will look at a through wall vent, I've got one wall where I could install two of these. If...

    what temperature?

digital piano, so no different to any other electrical item Venitilation I have - I just assumed it best to keep it at a base temperature but if that's not the case then fine. the door is insulated, not sure where I said it wasn't but it definitely is, just needs a seal along the bottom as...

    what temperature?

Hi all, just after some advice. I've insulated my garage, added double glazing and swapped the personnel door for a double glazed one and the entry door with a roller one, although that needs something adding to the bottom to seal the last little gap. I use the garage as a...

    Pool/Spa Room?

ahh the pool we're considering has heat pads - think solar panels and you're not far off. yes we could just have open air - which is where we might start as i'll finish the pergola before a roof but the aim is to have a roof.

Hi all, after a spot of advice. It's hot....BLOODY HOT!! the wife and I want a swim spa, but are thinking perhaps we'll start with a frame pool with filter etc and see what use we get from it and go from there. With this in mind, we need a space for it. at the side of our house, we have...

Hi all, so I've slowly been adding to the tool kit, and i'm at a point now where I want to put things away in a neater way. I have an impact driver drill/driver Circ saw Multitool. planner sander. all Makita 18V tools, just curious to see what others have done to store their power tools...

planning help - Man cave!! Designers please look here :)

Hi all, so, we've been plugging away on the house and are edging ever closer to our planned extension (I sadly had to go for replacing double glazing, some cladding and will have to do a new kitchen first! but once that's all done I can move onto extension) Now, this is a bit of fun for a...

Looking for a 12" mitre saw

https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-dws773-gb-216mm-electric-single-bevel-sliding-compound-mitre-saw-240v/9008j I bought this in the end. got it on offer for £150. It's perfect. doesn't take up loads of space and does what I need from it. Plus the pull mechanism is inside the saw, so no rails...

    mdf doors?

ah ok, see I was thinking that your normal cup hinge would be a bad idea as you only have the two small screws holding them in....well saying that, I assume because they're cut in, some of the force is applied to the wall of the hole rather than the screw. I would indeed be using 18mm mdf

    mdf doors?

Hi all, so, I've used kitchen cabinets in my garage. I don't really want to pay £30 a door to cover them though. all in would cost £360 for the doors I need - or - £60 to have them cut to size from MDF and then paint them...

Hi all, thinking of adding a router to the tool collection. Now, i've never used one. Not even once! I'm hoping to be able to do nice edges (i'd like to make a cribbage board) i.e. chamfered edges I'd also like to round of holes etc. do I look for a table router or handheld...or both! I...

    which insulation?

just looked at the thermal resistance values. Celotex 75mm 3.4m2K/W Polly 75mm 1.97m2K/W so 60 odd % better it seems. Might go for that with the extra cost. seems like it would make the most of any heat I put in.

    which insulation?

yeah more a case of if i'll notice a difference in performance more than anything. If my polystyrene will do the job great, if the rockwool will do it so be it. I just don't want to finish and thick "wish i'd used the other"

    which insulation?

that's fair. I can do that for sure, it's all controlled via an app anyway - bit like hive but for electric heaters.
