A spokesperson said: "Turning the thermostat up higher does not make your home warm up any quicker." Really?

I found turning the thermostat (TRV) to 20°C at 7 am, would not get the room to 20°C until around 10:30 am, but set it to 22°C at 7 am then 20°C at 8 am and the room would be at 20°C at 8 am and stay there, as the anti-hysteresis software built into the TRV head (Energenie) was simply OTT. The...

What to do with presents from our cat.

Found wet and clearly scared, put him is an empty pop corn bucket, gave it a little cheese, and allowed him/she to dry out and warm up, before taking outside and releasing. He ran off into the under growth, seemingly non the worst for the trip in our cat's month, but what should we do in the future?

Carbon Monoxide Alarm XC70 renewing the battery?

There has been now for 6 months a bleeping in my flat, which at first I thought was the smoke alarm, but after hunting today my daughter found it was a Carbon Monoxide Alarm XC70 since no one lives in the flat, not really a problem, but it would be good to fix it for the odd time someone says...

Cob, filament, and pearl LED lamps, watts to lumen, etc.

The filament LED I regarded as being for display, seen them in pubs, often need to take menu outside to read it as light so poor, and the cob LED reverse, it does not look very good, so in the main I fitted the pearl LED bulb which basic shines up from the base, and the cover defuses the light...

    Snow, schools, clearing, etc.

What a picture of Snowdon has to do with schools closing, I don't know, ask the BBC, but clearly snow is causing problems, just been out and blown it off my drive so safe for postman etc. Leaf blower does a great job. We expect post, milk, bins, etc, to be affected by the snow, but why would...

Minium room temperature, is there a limit?

I am watching the temperature in one room (3) drop, OK the sensor is on the windowsill so the coldest place in the room, this room has no heating, used as a laundry room, so the washing machine and tumble drier do heat it a bit, and clearly above freezing, so that's not a problem, but moving to...

    Handwashing hot water?

I know I need to run half a bowl full of cold water before I get hot water. I have 5 hot water tapes in the house, so a local hot water heater will likely only serve one tap, it would need to store the water as no way I could get a 6 kW supply to the taps, so think there is nothing I can do...

    Understanding heating, cost v operation.

Not used the word central on purpose, as including storage radiators, open fires, etc. So the big date 1978 and the winter of discontent this changed my whole outlook on heating, never again do I want to rely on a single energy supply to my home. Be it an open fire, a gas fire, storage...

What bulbs are what, and how to tell?

Is it a failed standard bulb, or a smart bulb turned off. Reasonably sure this one is a failed bulb, as in the main watts x 100 for a smart bulb is more than the lumen, but for a standard bulb it is normally less than the lumen, so this one going in the bin. Replacement 806 lumen and 6.5 watts...

Can I link a Wiser TRV head to a Wiser wall thermostat?

The radiator is against a cold wall, so the TRV is turning on heating too soon. At the moment set the TRV low, 17°C, 10 pm to midnight, but note the Kasa TRV head can be linked to a wall thermostat, so not affected by the cold wall. Can Wiser do the same?

How to do washing using off-peak?

The washing machine has a delay start timer, as does the tumble drier and dishwasher, the tumble drier and washing machine, both tumble the clothes every so often while waiting for the start time, this is not a problem with the tumble drier, but with the washing machine, it means the soap in the...

Old TV 42" new TV 55" both cheap Black Friday deals, new one Sharp Aquos, three HDMI leads, satellite lead, terrestrial aerial lead, and connects to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. 2 kWh battery pack, is it permitted, is it safe, and is it worthwhile.

This 2 kWh battery pack has been shown on eFIXX, It is expensive, but it is also portable, it seems it can export 800 watt to the grid, but I know my home only has a bidirectional RCBO on one of my 14 RCBO's so only the sockets in my shed could be used. As to G98 etc, well if one already has...

Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 Review – Quiet, Accurate Smart Heating what about the rest?

Full marks on the review google shows around £50 so not cheap, and the app looks very similar to the Kasa TRV head. Two year battery life is good, the Energenie has a two-year battery life as well. "you also get six adapters in the box, covering Danfoss RAV/RA/RAVL, Caleffi, Giacomini...

Energy saving, advertising rubbish or what?

This was part of an email from Nest, but how would it know? The boiler only runs when the return water is cool enough, it does not matter if the thermostat is on, it is when the boiler runs that matters. With a modulating boiler, also how much modulated, so how would they know how I did?

TRV exercising with Kasa and Wiser?

I would like to remove all the leaves in the pond, but near impossible as tadpoles still swimming around the pond. I like frogs, they get rid of flies, so don't want to kill any tadpoles.
