    Central heating control.

Hmmm, you have made this sound a it more complicated then I thought it was. I don’t think my parents had any new TRV’s fitted, just a boiler. Whats the rough price of a half decent digital, wireless, battery powered unit that can control temp and turn on and off. Who fits this, a heating guy...

    Fuse board question (with pics).

WOW!! Possibly 30 years old! My wires are the old colours so it’s defo before 2006, probably safe to assume before 2004 because I’m assuming in 2006 you probably wouldn’t of been able to buy the old colours anymore (because why would retailers stock something that won’t be used anymore) At what...

    Central heating control.

Hi, My combi boiler is roughly 7-8 years old. My parents had a new boiler fitted on Wednesday and have a heater control by their front door, so basically they can control their heating with out having to go up stairs. It’s wireless. Are these easy to fit, is a job I can do myself or do I need...

    Fuse board question (with pics).

I keep a torch in the lil cubby hole, I would always get up the ladder and realise I can’t see and have to climb back down . Looking at the pics, is it possible to give an approx age of it? It’s at least 10 years old but is there a way to tell if it’s 10-15, 20+ or what ever?

    Fuse board question (with pics).

Why are my lights not protected by the RCB. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I’m sure you have guessed I’m not an electrician. B32 = 32amps?

    Fuse board question (with pics).

The oven now has no heat, the grill (2nd oven) and rings still work fine. It was repaired for the same fault just before Christmas. Hopefully the insurance will just pay out and we can buy a new one. 3rd time it has happened in about a year.

    Fuse board question (with pics).

Ok, I didn’t realise they done different things, I thought it was just a bigger version capable of more power. So if an earth problem occurs the RCD trips, if it’s another problem the MCB trips? Just out of interest, from the pic, is there enough info to see what my cooker is rated at?

    Fuse board question (with pics).

Hi, This evening while making tea, the electric tripped out, the oven now has no heat so I suspect that was the issue. We have a free standing cooker/grill/oven, there is 1 wire that connects to the appliance. On my fuse board (I suspect that’s not the correct name for it) their is a switch...

    Loft lights.

That looks a nightmare! When re-wiring a light circuit, what do you do with all the wires? Every light fitting I have seen (not seen many) only have 3 connections, I’ve only seen pendant lights with enough space for all the wires.

    Loft lights.

Quick question, I’m not about to start any rewires or anything, just my down stairs lights got me a bit puzzled. My downstairs lights are not wired up aswell as my upstairs lights. I changed some lights over the weekend and there was loads of wires and connector blocks. Is that common because...

    Loft lights.

All lights are up and work great from a plug socket. I looked into it more and kinda understand how the lighting ring main works. I suspect the right way to wire it in, would be to add another junction box and wire it in like any other light? Anyway that is something I may consider in the...

    Loft lights.

I thought 100 milliamps would make 1 amp, I probably should of googled that. Thanks for the advice (and education). It’s likely that these will be getting hard wired in, probably when I next decorate the landing (and cut a hole in the wall to fix wires to the switch). I’m assuming I can just...

    Loft lights.

I have bought a 30amp junction box, does it matter that it’s 30amp and a lot higher then 6amp? If I did hardwire these lights in, where would I wire the spare Earth’s to? Lastly, why do I need a 6amp fuse? The lamps I have are 18w (I never said in the original post) from using an online...

I’m not an electrician so can’t really give advice, but YouTube has a video for almost everything.

ceiling light powered from 3-pin plug?

Just like a table lamp but with a longer lead.

    Loft lights.

The flex cable I have is 1.5mm not 1mm as first thought. The lights only have 2 wire connections, no earth. Should I buy some 2 core flex just leave the earth unconnected in case I need it at a later date?

    Loft Hatch

I’m only the inner part that lifts out. Changing the whole hatch is a bigger DIY job then I would like to take on at the moment. Maybe a job for the future.

    Loft Hatch

Hi, My current loft hatch is loads of boards stuck together (possibly T&G) and looks a bit crap, so I’m going to change it for 1 piece or board. Is there any recommendations for what wood to use? I’m concerned about one side (lower side) being warm and the other side (top) being cold and the...
