I am planning on painting my timber framed DG windows.
They have a rubber gasket or seal all around the edge. The problem is the colour of this seal is brown and I was going to paint the windows grey.
The window company dont supply a grey seal and
I don't think it's advisable to paint the...
About to paint some external timber door and window frames. One is showing lot of surface cracks as can be seen in photos.
Would sanding alone be sufficient for this or should I use some wood filler (e.g toupret or similar ) first and then sand.
The cracks are all over so if I use a filler...
Have to paint the external side of my rear doors.
They have lift off hinges on the side however on the top they have some sort of sliding hinge.
Is it easy to disconnect or remove this hinge on the top - if so how, would prefer not to unscrew it from frame if it can be avoided.
I have a glass block wondow on my stairs landing which is showing some signs of damp on inside.
On inspection on outside the putty / sealant around the outside perimeter is cracking a lot.
What would be recomendation for repair - linseed oil putty or could i use a sealant.
I have read that...
My Timber windows and external doors are showing signs of wear especially at the back of my house where they are south facing.
They are installed about 20 years without maintenance so far from what i can tell. They appear to have a factory varnish finish - wood is vsible so they arent currently...
This relates to a discoloration of zinc although not part of a roof but as it's the same material as the zinc on roofs I reckon this is the place for my query.
I have zinc cladding on my windowsills but two of them have discoloured badly. There are pinkish lines and an overall variable tone to...
Had to re silicone around my under mounted stainless kitchen sink set in a granite style worktop.
I lowered the sink and when I did some of the clips fell out.
I couldn't get the clips to stay in place after that they kept falling out.
There is a small groove with a hole in the centre when...
My Window board in the kitchen is showing signs of wear.
What would be the best treatment approach to make it look better ?
See photos of kitchen window board and Hall window board for comparisson of conditions.
I'd like to leave the finish similar to original where the grain is visible.
I am...
Hi
I have a leak above my oriel window, its dripping in on outer leaf edge of lintel.
After weeks and months of investigations I believe the situation is as follows.
The original build had a DPC from inner leaf exiting one course of brick on outler leaf above the window but no weep holes.
This...
My lighting circuit is a 10A circuit
I am looking for a dummy dimmer module but all the ones I see are only rated for 6Amp or 8 Amp.
I presume I need a 10 Amp rated module and would anyone know if a 10A dummy dimmer exists ?
I found some outdoor light fittings I'd like to buy but they only come in one shade of near black.
How difficult would it be to repaint to a colour of my choice ?
They are die cast aluminum.
I saw some CROP spray paints online, never heard of them but they also do a epoxy primer and a clear...
I'd like to install some recessed brick lights in my wall in the rendered section under the cedar - see photo.
As far as I know it's a cavity block wall.
Wondering how easy or difficult it would be to cut out the recess for the light - and wire up from ground level. Presume I'd have to get the...
In my hall I have three on/off rocker switches for the lights which are all recessed down lights. One switch at each end and one in middle of hall. I would like the option to use a dimmer for the lights.
I have seen some led lights which dim based on the amount of times the switch is turned on...
I'd like to be able to schedule my outdoor lights to come for a few hours each evening but at a dimmed output.
I'd like the lights to be on fully if the PIR is activated, at any time in the night.
Could I wire a smart wifi switch in series with / feeding a dimmer and have a PIR in parallel to...
Looking to get some tinted UV protection oil for outdoor cedar cladding. I like the UV clear but I would like a slightly darker red tint to blend in with other timber on my house.
I looked at the light red tint from Osmo posted in another thread and it seems quite dark.
Just wondering if it...
Hi,
I have a circuit in my kitchen with 2 spots and a wall sconce.
On the other side of the room I have another circuit with two more spots and I want to add these to the first circuit.
The second circuit just had a twin and earth from the light switch to the spots, in and out of 1st JB, in...
Hi,
Just wondering what is considered best practise especially from a visual point of view.
I have some existing wiring and lights exiting in my soffit.
I want to install some PIRs and move the existing lights.
Should I run cable clipped to soffit or clipped to fascia under gutter or should...
Hi
I have a Flash Immersat timer which control my conventional gas boiler on off.
There is one thermostat in my system which shuts off the rads when it is switched, but if timer is on, the heating remains on to heat the hot water cylinder. Basically the only thing that switches on or off the...
Hi,
I have a parapet wall which never had any coping on it.
It has been leaking and now leaking into room below over the windows.
I plan to install some metal coping over a plywood base.
It seems there was a DPC installed under the top layer of bricks ( the vertical bricks in the photo).
Not...
Hi,
I have a cable hanging down outside the house from under soffit for outdoor lights but no lights were ever fitted until now.
I want to attach 3x 20 W LED floods to this cable spread along the width of house - approx 15m.
The shop I bought the lights in gave me an off cut of 0.75mm H05RN...
