Bangs in the middle of the night!

Hi, There are one or two pipes but it is almost definitely movement of wood as opposed to plastic pipes banging on wood. There is one outside wall, but it’s a relatively modern house and so it is not getting excessively cold in there. I don’t think this used to happen before I started work on...

Bangs in the middle of the night!

Thanks for your input and detailed response. It just happens once, Almost like something has moved a bit Due to contraction in the wee small hours when it is colder. The main culprit is likely to be the fact that everything is not screwed together yet, but obviously that might not be correct...

Bangs in the middle of the night!

It is a bang not a groan and the floor is not screwed down yet. There is nobody else in the house and it is nothing to do with the central heating or plumbing of any description. My main concern is whether the noggins Are potentially the source of the noise and whether they are a good or bad idea.

Bangs in the middle of the night!

Some while back I took the ensuite apart and removed the floor as it was poor quality chipboard, slightly sagging and definitely not straight! I then straightened up the joists and added a number of noggins where the joints will be for the plywood floor and said new floor is now laid, but not...

XPS panel (e.g Elements board) fitting for shower

With reference to the attached picture, I need to fit a shower tray (on riser kit) into a three sided recess. My question relates to whether I cut the wall boards (XPS) tight to the floor and ceiling, or whether I leave a gap underneath e.g. 10mm? I imagine that fitting the boards tight to the...

Shower riser kit plinth set to finished floor height?

Thanks for your response. I’m still at the planning stage and so I can set it to any height, but I just wanted to make sure that my approach / thinking is correct?

Shower riser kit plinth set to finished floor height?

Am I correct in thinking that the plinth of a riser kit should rest over the floor tiles i.e. the bottom of the plinth is set to the finished floor height, with the end of the tile run just tucking underneath? If the above is the case, then I assume that the edge of the tile stops before the...

Changing shower trap to lower-capacity unit i.e. MacAlpine @ 26l/m

I was trying to avoid a long rambling post around two slightly different issues, albeit there is a link. I address those longer flanges in the other thread.

Changing shower trap to lower-capacity unit i.e. MacAlpine @ 26l/m

They come with their own set of problems, which I have detailed in my other listing!

Changing shower trap to lower-capacity unit i.e. MacAlpine @ 26l/m

Good point! All of the traps I am considering can have their innards removed by unscrewing the flange if required. You can also get to the hair trap without needing to unscrew the flange. Aside from that, the trap will be at the front of the tray and so I can get to it. The problem comes if I...

Changing shower trap to lower-capacity unit i.e. MacAlpine @ 26l/m

Outgoing pipework should be fine, as I am virtually over the waste pipe. As regards the existing trap, it is cheap flimsy plastic with a really poor quality seal. Bearing in mind that this tray will be going into a three-sided recess, I would rather use a much better quality trap as once it is...

Changing shower trap to lower-capacity unit i.e. MacAlpine @ 26l/m

I already know the figures: - Boiler 20 l/m - Pressure 3.75 bar - Flow (outside tap) 32 l/m So as I mentioned, I assume with the correct mix of components that I could exceed the capacity of the trap and hence wonder if I would regret reducing the capacity!? If it is well in excess of what is...

Matching shower trap with tray thickness

As stated in my other post, I’ve been looking at replacing the trap supplied with my new shower tray with a McAlpine ST90CPB-S. Thing is, they quote a tray thickness of 0 - 17mm and this is where my uncertainty lies. The thickness of my tray is 20mm across its middle, but around the drain it is...

Changing shower trap to lower-capacity unit i.e. MacAlpine @ 26l/m

In the middle of an ensuite refurb at the moment and I am looking to change the trap that came supplied with the tray to the MacAlpine ST90CPB-S. The supplied trap can handle 33 l/m whereas the MacAlpine can handle 26 l/m. Should I be concerned about the reduced throughput? I have another trap I...

How flat should shower trays be?

Good point, had forgotten about that! Thanks

How flat should shower trays be?

It’s 900 x 760 and I bought it online, so there’s a bit of an issue there! :-/ Really awkward with spirit levels as you can easily lose a millimetre here and there so my measurements are not exact. I also suppose that my spirit levels could be slightly out, but then again that should all be...

How flat should shower trays be?

I used a spirit level and packers (Broadfix from Screwfix), measuring each end of the tray and then across the diagonals. Not an exact science of course, but should be fairly close.

How flat should shower trays be?

I have received a stone resin shower tray and as best as I can measure, one corner is 3 mm lower than the other three (across the top of the tray edge) and I don’t know whether this is an issue or not? Are these things normally completely flat, or is it the norm that they are out of flatness by...

    Parkside Belt Sander PBS900 A1

indeed, which is exactly the reason I was looking at it. You’re the one I was looking at was the Makita orange, which is around £100 but good value for money compared to the professional tool which is over double the price. The benefit with this table is that it’s built like a tank and you can...

    Parkside Belt Sander PBS900 A1

Currently on sale at Lidl with a three year warranty for £35, which is ridiculously cheap for a fairly powerful belt sander. But, I wonder if they are any good or whether it is going to be going in the bin in a few months time. Anyone got one that can comment on the quality? I’m not expecting...
