How to fill (and what to use) around window frames?

Hi I'm no professional but I wouldn't fill a 20mm gap with just sealant. If you're not used to working with the stuff then you may be left with a very sticky and uneven mess! Some sort of beading may be the answer. If I were doing it to my own house I would glue in timber strips slightly...

How to fill (and what to use) around window frames?

I would wait till the painting/varnishing is done as most sealants aren't overpaintable. You could seal the bulk of the larger gaps before painting, aiming to leave it flush or slightly below the face of the frame. Make sure you don't get any smudges on the frame as the finish won't stick...

    Masking tape advice please

Hi You should remove before the paint dries or you'll not get a clean edge. With that many windows you should give freehand a go, you'll be great at it by the end! Taping before each coat can be very time consuming. Just remember that you can scrape the glass if need be. Andy

    Aerial distribution box location

Hello I am after advice on the best place to locate the distribution box to supply the lounge, kitchen/diner/lounge and bedrooms. It's a 3 storey semi plus cellar. I am presuming that the shorter the distance from the roof aerial to the distribution box would be best in terms of...

Need advice on how best to fix a door + hinge

Best to move the hinges and repair the holes/damage properly. You will then have to repaint, but I think that this is unavoidable. You won't get the paint to match exactly as it will have discoloured over time, but may not be too noticeable if it's a small area

Hi I have to refix some small slate sections on some steps. They are vertical pieces only about 100mm tall to cover the stair riser (blockwork), and are purely cosmetic. Would mortar suffice?? I wasn't sure since slate has quite a smooth finish and whether it would adhere adequetly...
