Multi speed settings on impact driver

Is there any point for impact driver with several speed settings ? I can understand in a combi drill but impacts are used for screwing so surely you'd want to do it as quickly as possible ?
 
I'm pretty sure that the speed dictates the torque applied. I.e. when clutch will slip
