Adhesive/mortar for fixing slate tiles

Hi

I have to refix some small slate sections on some steps. They are vertical pieces only about 100mm tall to cover the stair riser (blockwork), and are purely cosmetic.

Would mortar suffice?? I wasn't sure since slate has quite a smooth finish and whether it would adhere adequetly.

You may have problems on a vertical surface using mortar mix which is not ideal anyway. Use a powder cement tile adhesive; make sure it's dry before fixing.
