    Painting new galvanised gate

I had looked at the zinsser all coat previously, seems there is a wb and solvent based one - would there be a difference in applications? I think I was erring on the side of a mordant wash, just need to find some reasonably priced, £50 for 5 litres was a bit of a surprise!

    Painting new galvanised gate

Evening all I will shortly be needing to paint a large sliding gate black that has been freshly galvanised. What's the current best way to do this so the paint doesn't peel in time? Seems to be a mixture of mordant solution then preferred choice of top coat or zinc phosphate primer then top...

Roof tile choice - roof weight

Woody, thank you. There has indeed been a little roof spread previously but this has been dealt with a while back. Its good to know that there is an alternative of packing the battens if necessary, I shall mention this to the roofer.

Roof tile choice - roof weight

Afternoon all Following on from another similar roof weight question, we will be having our bungalow roof replaced shortly at the same time as our attached neighbours [same tile/colour] the existing roof that I believe is the original, has Redland 49s. Neighbour has suggested using a lighter...

Are auto reel hoses any good? Need pivot.

I picked up an auto reel hose from Aldi a few weeks back for £40. It's been fitted for a couple of weeks now and no issues to report other than the hose returns to the reel at a fair old lick if you don't hold on to it. You may be lucky and find one in your local branch.

    Double rebate composite door

Thanks. I believe they are double rebate only, and it is the only door one of them fit (Apeer) after they stopped selling Solidoors.

    Lead valley replacement

That's good too hear. Is there any merit to an open valley over the ones that have a central upstand? We don't have any trees that would shed leaves into gutters etc if that is a consideration

    Lead valley replacement

As part of our front porch replacement which is under the front part of our bungalow roof, we have a lead valley that has seen better days, depending on which was the wind/rain blows, it leaks through into the porch. This is the only valley on the roof, so matching to other valleys isn't an...

    Double rebate composite door

I am currently in the processes of starting to obtain quotes to replace the windows and front door in our porch and we have seen a double rebate composite door that we like the look of. It is more of a modern/contemporary style with just the keyhole and a long stainless bar handle. Having...

    Roof valley repair/replacement cost

I have been watching this thread with interest as shortly I will shortly be requiring my bungalows lead valley replaced, as it leaks after being patched up in the past, especially in respect of the work that should be done and the pricing of such a job. What is the advantage of replacing wet...

    Patio door roller

Thank you Gazman. I had looked at the multifit twin wheel jobbies but they only seem to have one fixing point up into the door itself whereas the existing ones have two. There is certainly room to fit one of those twin wheel sets, but I was hesitant in case the wheel would flap up and down as...

    Patio door roller

Hi Ever since we moved into our property the patio door has made a terrible racket and has been very difficult to open and close. We took the door off its runners the other day to find the one of the end stops was being dragged along the track and the rollers were now flattened on one edge. I...

    Kitchen lighting quandry

Eric, thank you. Lots of good info there for me to consider. We are not considering colour changing at all, so one less thing to worry about. When you say to look out for the lumen per watt to ensure good quality LED tape, are you aware of any particular makes that I should consider, or even...

    Kitchen lighting quandry

Thanks, that gives a lot of useful info. Both of the longer walls will have complete runs of cabinets at ceiling level, albeit with a couple of bridging units. There are no wall units returning back along the window/door walls, so we would be able to have lights from one end to the other...

    Kitchen lighting quandry

Thanks Bernard Self adhesive strips that get warm and painted ceilings are not compatible. They will peel off. My mistake, I have edited the original post now. The led tape would be on top of the cabinet shining up, instead of the fluorescent strips

    Kitchen lighting quandry

Morning all We are currently having our kitchen redone and am considering our lighting options at the moment. The room is approx. 2.8m long and 2.4m wide with 2.4m ceilings. There is a 1m wide window and external door at one end that faces NE and an internal door the other end. We are using...
