Paint peeling off coving in bathroom

Hi John, all good here thanks. Hope you're doing well too & nice to hear from you again. The fan is central to the room (which is quite small anyway) so think it's positioning is probably fine. With regards to pvc holding condensation do you mean on the surface of it?

Paint peeling off coving in bathroom

I'm in a 3 year old house & over the last few months the paint on the coving in the en suite bathroom has been peeling mostly just on 2 sections of the wall by the shower & window. I tried dulux bathroom paint which lasted for a wee while then it started again. After a bit of research I used...

    Strange thing happening to grout

Gave it a good clean & looks better although the portland type colour appears to have turned white. Checked other bathroom & same has happened to grey grout on same wall (opposite wall to where shower head is). Wondering if its maybe some type of efflorescence?

Thanks - I'll give it a good scrub & see what happens

    Strange thing happening to grout

Ah so it's maybe just a build up of soap products rather than a problem with grout you reckon?

    Strange thing happening to grout

I was just wiping down our walk in shower this evening when I noticed some of the grout looked strange (but only on one wall). Its been there 3 years so not new but if I run my finger along it it seemed to be coming off when wet which seems very odd & I don't understand how that could happen...

    Painting over cooking oil

I wouldn't care but he used to be a chef! No excuses . Thanks - would you recommend something like zinnsser B-I-N?. Really don't want to do whole ceiling as it's quite an area so would just be dabbing it on. (Tried the zinnsser perma white on a small bit but didn't work)

    Painting over cooking oil

My husband managed to cover the kitchen ceiling with cooking oil when it all splattered out the pan on the hob. There's hundreds of drops on it looking a real mess. I tried painting over them this afternoon with emulsion only for them to show through again. Any ideas around this before I kill...

    Cracks to facing stone

Thanks Woody, that sounds like good solid advice there. I'll get the silicone out. With the cracks being quite narrow would I be best using a thin paintbrush to get it in the crack or put a thicker bead over the whole crack do you reckon?

    Cracks to facing stone

He Woody, just checked this morning and another one of the cracks looks like it's deteriorated since last year. Would clear silicone help do you reckon?

    Cracks to facing stone

Only the standard Nhbc warranty - builders said they only fix cracks if a £1 fits in. Is it anything to worry about? Should I do anything to prevent further damage?

    Cracks to facing stone

Hi, I'm in a 2 yr old bungalow and about a year ago I noticed cracks to 3 of the facing stones. I got the builder to look at them but he said they weren't concerned as the crack is less than a £1 coin size & there is breeze block behind the facing. (Each individual block is breeze block at the...

    Roughcasting cracks

I did wonder about that. I'll keep a beady eye on it. I also have unibond bathroom sealant - would that do the same job?

    Roughcasting cracks

Thanks John, I had some decorators caulk in the garage which says you can use for external use so I've just put that on just now. Nice to hear from you again and thanks again for your trusty advice Emma

    Roughcasting cracks

I'm in a 9 mth old new build house and a few months ago noticed cracking to the roughcasting around the external garage side door. The builders said it was their fault (I think they said the side garage door had been put on before the roughcasting had been done instead of other way around - I...

    Shower leak

Thanks Nige - yes the original bead (which came away) was smaller & neater however I struggled to get the contractor back out so did it myself (not so neat!). Do you reckon I'm safe to leave it as it is in last photo without it leaking through wall etc?

    Shower leak

Hi we moved into a new build last December & have a walk in shower which tends to have a small leak near where profile meets wall. I'll attach photos. The builder reckons it shouldn't have been sealed on inside to allow water to run back into shower so I've just now taken off silicone where...

Field Mice in Garden - how to prevent them getting in house

Thanks everybody - don't think its moles as no mounds of earth beside the holes & it definitely looked like a mouse. Just hoping they stay outside but think i'll buy one of these sonic plug ins as a precaution. If nothing else it'll keep the spiders at bay! Thanks again

Field Mice in Garden - how to prevent them getting in house

Hi, just moved into newbuild bungalow in Dec & last week noticed holes in lawn beside walls of house. After a bit of googling it looks like voles (field mice) - saw 1 of the pesky things running into a hole too. No evidence of them so far in the bungalow but want to obviously prevent them coming...
