Is this damp on new plaster?

Hi Ree, That is correct, because the brickwork didn't look amazing we opted for them to use plasterboard on the 3 sides which they dot and dabbed on. The inside of the fireplace was bare brick, when the previous occupants had it sealed up, whoever did it didn't put a vent in and there was...

Is this damp on new plaster?

Hi there, I will take a few more pictures tonight when I get home. Basically in June we had the inside of the fireplace prepped for a wood burner. The installer dot and dabbed heat proof plasterboard and then did a skim with heat proof plaster. Everything bar 1 little bit dried like normal, but...

Is this damp on new plaster?

I have attached a couple of pics but basically I had a fireplace done with heat prof plasterboard skim. Over the last few weeks salts and dark patches have appeared. I am 99% sure it is damp but would appreciate some expert opinions so I am 190% sure.

    Base hearth

What kind of damp proofing are you thinking of using as the hearth you have is a constructional hearth and it needs to be a minimum of 125mm thick (off the top of my head), and if the damp proof is possibly flammable then I guess it would be a no-no to have it sandwiched in between. Is there...

Re-opened fireplace, Couple of questions (with pics)

thanks for your reply dishman. Luckily I have a good stock of wood as I have a wood fire in the other room, we will be getting a defra approved stove as well. Also, our gas supply only runs to the boiler so getting everything changed to run somewhere else would no doubt cost a fair bit.

Re-opened fireplace, Couple of questions (with pics)

hi Jeff, cheers for the reply. I had a look earlier and that brickwork in the picture only goes up about 4 foot then slopes into the wall at the back so I know it's not supporting anything. The only concern I have is this: On one side just under the top of the fireplace is some brickwork...

similar kind of thread to the chap who has posted recently, re-opened up a fireplace over the last week so that we can install a woodburner for the winter. Got a couple of questions so I know which direction to proceed in, mainly to do with the back of the fireplace. Basically I'm happy with...

Question regarding a double skin extension with a stud wall

cheers for the replies chaps. at some point I'm going to need to replace the plasterboard, at least in the kitchen, as it's cracked along some of the vertical joins and along the ceiling. Hence why I wasn't sure the purpose of the stud wall given that it was a 2 skin extension. Don't know if...
