    'Debox' for lighting junctions?

I'm replacing a load of 'choc blocks not even wrapped in insulation tape under insulation' which junction boxes. Example: https://img42.com/0pvmr I'm aware there's a few options on these (standard round junction boxes, Wago, Hager, Ashley, etc) - but has anyone used 'debox' available from...

Indesit CTA55 - Freezer Icing Up At Bottom (blocked drainage?)

To help anyone else who has this problem, I'm posting how I fixed it in the end. Symptom: Indesit freezer builds up ice at the bottom of the freezer. The water collection unit at the back of the fridge (on top of the compressor) was clear of obstruction - so it was likely the draining...

Drayton MA1 - Looks like a motorised valve head problem?

Do you mean the brass valve body or the motorised head unit? I've already been thinking of replacing it with a Honeywell as we've had failures with MA1's in other houses. I'm assuming it uses a different brass valve body? (rather than just switching out the head)

Drayton MA1 - Looks like a motorised valve head problem?

Our MA1 sometimes (about 10 times in the past 14 months) 'sticks' in a non-resting position (i.e. Mid or Heating). The only way to 'reset' it is to remove power from the unit via the isolator switch. When power is removed, it goes back to a 'resting' position (W)ater. The spindle on the valve...

UPVC Door Lock - Inside Barrel Too Short

I'm slowly getting down to the 'minor' issues in the house we bought last year - this is one of them. On our front door, the barrel is about 2mm too short of being flush with the plate and about 0.5-1mm of meeting the plate (which is the issue) It seems entirely secure and locks fine, but it...

Indesit CTA55 - Freezer Icing Up At Bottom (blocked drainage?)

Short: Does anyone know where the freezer drainage hole is for this model? (It doesn't seem obviously visible and I'm not keen on removing the radiator as it looks pretty involved) http://www.tesco.com/direct/indesit-ctaa55-fridge-freezer-a-energy-rating-white-55cm/134-0782.prd Background...

Aircon unit on separate 20a circuit, via outdoor RCD?

To be honest, I've had the lot switched off at the consumer as it seemed very bizarre. I'll get someone out to remove the outdoor socket(s) and replace with a IP66 connector so its on its own circuit completely.

Aircon unit on separate 20a circuit, via outdoor RCD?

This is fine, but it seems when the RCD has tripped or I press 'test', there's no downstream power. Reset the RCD and it comes back on. I could have been clearer on the RCD - it appears to be a double-pole like this one...

    Java Script with Samsung phone

Download Chrome and try that (although, most Android based phones will use Chrome by default now). You could also try an alternative browser like Dolphin Browser too. Javascript runs 'client side' (in your browser, on your computer/phone - not on the web server). Some complex JS, may such as...

    Seems a bit exaggerated.

Few quick observations: 1 - He went with the NPower deal, which cost £450 more than the "no free Nest" option. So you ended up paying £450 for a £200-£250 device. This doesn't reflect well on him tbh. 2 - It refers to Nest failing to control his hot water. Nest does not control hot water in the...

Aircon unit on separate 20a circuit, via outdoor RCD?

The question is: Is having an air con unit being fed by a supply that goes through an outdoor IP66 RCD-socket unit against any regs? -- Long story short, we moved into a new house and it appeared the air-con unit in the conservatory was dead. Turns out it does work - it's actually on a...

Central Heating Programmer on Way Out?

Thanks for the input guys! No wiring changes have been made at all - as far as I know it's the original system from when the house was built (approx 11 years). I'll change the thermostat and see what happens. I'm assuming that the only way to use a multimeter to check for the fault...

Central Heating Programmer on Way Out?

There's only one valve - it's a 3 port valve that switches between the hot water and central heating. It as 3 positions I believe. You could be right that it could be a valve sticking, but this doesn't explain the heating coming on in the early hours when it's not scheduled (?) (unless the...

    Disaster - Toolstation website

New, are we sure? It's not even responsive (i.e. won't automatically adapt to work on tablets/mobiles/varying screen sizes). #fail

    Backup size issue

Basically it's a bit of: "The Windows backup process is a law unto itself". I've come across the same thing and it can depend on: - When you back the files up - The type of file backup it's doing at any point, or thinks it might need to do based on how you use your machine - The type of...

    Flash and forum use?

I'd recommend switching to Chrome. Unfortunately there's still a tiny bit of flash content out there - although most sites do use HTML5/CSS3 and Javascript to deliver rich experiences that work across most platforms natively. Also, most video players no longer use Flash too. No-one I...

    computer won't boot up

The second Tuesday of each month is known as "Patch Tuesday" - it's when Microsoft release the majority of the scheduled patches for it's operating systems, such as Windows 7, Windows 8, etc. Sometimes - as others have said - this can mean that you computer takes a long time to start. This...

Central Heating Programmer on Way Out?

Hi guys, The heating in the house we recently bought sometimes acts a bit strangely - I'm assuming it's the 2-channel Horstmann H21 programmer, but I'm not entirely sure. Obviously, I'll get someone in to take a good look but if I can just replace the programmer or thermostat to solve the...

    Garage Conversion Floor Height?

As long as there's a solution I'm happy! I just didn't want the carpet fitters to throw a fit if there wasn't a solution after we've had the work done and paid the builder. (I was only aware of the metal strips, but the timber thresholds seems to allow for a much larger different in floor...

    Garage Conversion Floor Height?

In a way, both. The main questions are: 1. Are new floors usually made flush with the top of any adjoining flooring to the room? (this seems odd, surely you'd want at least a 10mm depth? to allow for carpet, etc?) 2. Assuming we carpet over the chipboard. Then we later remove the hall...
