    Lukewarm bathwater

Thanks oldbuffer for the advice. I have pressed the button and turned the control but it made little difference. I also unscrewed the faucet and found some more signs of calcification but it made little difference overall. I believe the model is a 'Hansgrohe - ecostat 1001 sl exposed...

    Lukewarm bathwater

I have pressed the button but it made no difference. In answer to your query - I have a range tribune cylinder. How do I open the faucet to get at the thermostatic cartridge? I am wondering if it requires turning the water off, unscrewing the two bolt parts and using a hex key on the underside...

    Lukewarm bathwater

Hi, Recently I have noticed that my bathwater is only lukewarm. For the rest of the flat i.e. kitchen tap and the bathroom sink tap the water is warm. I read the following article and it made me think maybe the faucet is calcified as the flat has now been in use for 10 years and here in London...

    Smeg ceramic hob not working

This morning my SMEG cucina hob SE2640tc stopped working properly. When I turn on the electric supply the control lights go on briefly and then turn off and I am unable to turn them back on again. I have cleaned the surface in a vain hope it might make a difference but I am unsure what is wrong...

Boiler Issues - not sure what's wrong and charges for fixing it

Mike - I have never recharged a vessel before. Is it as simple as pumping it up to 3.0 (as per the outside of the vessel says it should be) ?

Boiler Issues - not sure what's wrong and charges for fixing it

Thanks for your replies, I contacted the Liff Limefighter company and they say their product typically lasts 8 - 10 years so at 11 years old its about time I replaced it. I found possible replacements here http://www.gasapplianceguide.co.uk/liff_magnetic_inhibitor.htm They show two options...

    Hot water problems with boiler

Thanks for the replies everyone, Just to be clear the boiler problem is one my father is having and not myself. I cut and pasted his query here. He replied the following to me 'Many thanks for this. I think this is beyond me. I think I need a plumber. I will get one after Christmas. Thank...

    Replacing the bath waste

Terry - Many thanks for your help and your patience. I've had a few showers now and tested the bath waste with a bath and everything is fine so far. I will keep checking for the next month and then reseal the bath panel back. Cheers

Boiler Issues - not sure what's wrong and charges for fixing it

Thanks for your replies, I did a quick google on the items and each of them has a large mark up. Regarding the filters - how long do they typically last for? The plumber said they only last around 12 months. Now I accept I should take what he says with a large pinch of salt but the filter is...

Boiler Issues - not sure what's wrong and charges for fixing it

On Thursday evening I heard a dripping noise around the boiler that I eventually sourced to the acetal tundish. I have left the boiler off since that time as a precaution. I looked up a plumber website online and a guy came over on Saturday. He did a quick visual check and no more and stated...

    Replacing the bath waste

Apologies, I'm not always very good explaining these things or reaching the right diagnosis as an amateur. I rechecked everything carefully. It turns out my problem is due to a gap in the sealant between the bath waste and the bath tub. The o ring is fine. There was nothing wrong with the p...

    Replacing the bath waste

Terry - Its coming from the trap to the waste connection. I will try tightening it more tonight. It seems fine when there is no shower or bath it was only after a quick shower that I noticed it. I will take a photo of the new seal tonight when I get home from work to show what I have recently done.

    Replacing the bath waste

Yesterday I used a drain snake to deal with the original problem of a slow draining of the bath and it seems to be draining quicker so I thought everything might be resolved. However this morning I used the shower and I still ended up getting a small leak. What should I do now?

    Replacing the bath waste

The old seal was twisted. I have replaced it and laid down the new one flat against the ridge, taken off the PTFE tape and dried the waste and trap. I will return in a few hours and see how it has been. Cheers

    Replacing the bath waste

Ok, I've replaced the seal and placed the new one at the bottom of the ridge and realigned the bath waste. Hopefully this is better.

    Replacing the bath waste

Ok, I'm not sure which item here you recommend I use https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-replacement-trap-seal-black-40mm-4-pcs/40512?_requestid=559728 I think what I bought at b and q is the same item (see photo). I can certainly redo the seal and untwist it.

    Replacing the bath waste

Thanks for the reply Terry, I have bought a similar trapkit from b and q. Which of the rubber seals from the photo should I use and how exactly does it fit as there does not seem much spare space at the top of the trap for it. Also if the waste is not vertical and is cross threaded how bad a...

    Replacing the bath waste

Thanks for the suggestion. I've moved further along with sorting out the bath waste. It's now installed fine but I can not stop a leak from the connection between it and the pipe. Any suggestions would be welcome. I already have an o ring in place but I can not seem to find a space for a rubber...
