    Rotten purlin under velux window

I am in the process of stripping back the attic rooms in my 1910 Edwardian terrace house which has been over boarded badly with no insulation. Upon removing the boards I have discovered the middle section of the purlin under the velux window has rotten (presumably from a leak). It is the top...

Plumbing options for new bathroom in attic rooms

Thanks both for the reply. I think I will follow your advice and relocate the electric shower to the attic shower room and have a thermostatic mixer installed in the main bathroom. In terms of the 10mm cable for the electric shower, this already runs up to the attic floor for the pull cord...

Plumbing options for new bathroom in attic rooms

I am planning a re-model of my loft conversion which currently contains two bedrooms to incorporate a new shower room as well. Would welcome some advice on the best plumbing options: - There is one existing bathroom which is currently served by a 10.5kw Triton Electric Shower (already installed...

    Attic radiators constantly need bleeding

I'm pretty sure it's not hydrogen, it doesn't readily ignite. The system had inhibitor topped up in September 2020. The previous owners of the property had not maintained the system at all, however it was power flushed and inhibitor added when the new boiler went in last year.

    Attic radiators constantly need bleeding

I bled the radiators this morning, as usual attic ones filled with air but it did not burn noticably when a lighter was applied to it. I have taken the tops of the TRV's off on the older radiators (dating from early-mid 90s) and I have noticed some oxidisation - could this be part of the...

    Attic radiators constantly need bleeding

Any tips on what to look for? There are no obvious leaks as far as I can see. The heating system has recently had inhibitor added. Around 25% of the rads are brand new, the remainder from the early 90s (I am upgrading as I renovate each room). Boiler is not losing pressure.

    Attic radiators constantly need bleeding

I have a combi boiler heating system, the boiler is a Worcester and was installed in the past couple of years. The two radiators in the attic collect air and frequently need bleeding due to cold spots (they need bleeding every 3-4 weeks). The boiler is in the basement and has an additional...

Re line walls or re skim

I am in the process of stripping all the badly put up lining paper off in my Victorian terraced house (it's a bad DIY job, overlapping seams and gaps between seams). There are 4 layers of wallpaper in places, I am stripping back to reveal the original (grey!) Plaster underneath Condition wise...

2000 grade lining paper or re-plaster

I have a house that is covered in woodchip and have now got round to stripping it all off and it is back to the old plaster. It's edwardian house circa 1910. In the main the plaster is not blown however it has been filled in many places and not sanded down, presumably because the woodchip was...

Help! Rats in my suspended ceiling, knawed insulation

I will do that tomorrow if the lettings agency do not act on it! I don't want to go straight to the council as I don't want to damage my relationship with the landlord - aside from the above problem, the flat is perfect for us and it's a great location.

Help! Rats in my suspended ceiling, knawed insulation

Hi there, I live in a rented flat, and there is an office style suspended ceiling in both rooms, covering up the concrete flooring of the flat above. I today had a workman round from the lettings agency who took one of the ceiling tiles out in the bedroom to inspect a possible leak (there was...
