    Radiator fittings advice sought

Hi folks, Please bear with me on this one...Our poorly thrown together house of 12 years aged needed a revamp of the downstairs shower room, I'm a stonemason to trade, have my HNC Building but obviously not clued in to every trade. Cut it short, rotten rusting radiator, removed and took all...

    TMV and shower outlet woes....

Hi folks, Following on from my radiator questions (thanks for all the replies) here's my next set of questions !!! Had a look at the idea of: A- tile over tiles(not keen) B- fit Respotex or equivalent over it. C- rip it all off the wall, replace plasterboard with marine ply(+ tiles or...

    Radiator replacement

A double skin 500 x 700 rad is a bit excessive in a room 2m x 1.2m...think these fell off the back of a lorry or were spare from another job...

    Radiator replacement

Yeah the TRV was removed as they realised after building the house they needed to have a single radiator on permanently (It's got a 12kw multifuel stove so if the rads were all closed it would probably blow up the thermal store....??) But good to know I can "tune" it almost the same to restrict...

    Radiator replacement

Cheers Terry- just sussed out how to close them, should be a straightforward replacement just need a 700(H) x 500(W) radiator...(straightforward, excluding the fact the missus is now on about tiling the whole place which means gutting the shower room etc as I'm not faffing about working around...

    Radiator replacement

Hi, We have a radiator needing replaced, it is permanently on the TRV was removed 10 years ago. I'm assuming that the ends can be closed off to prevent the need for an entire drain down. Maybe though after 10 years I should drain it all down anyway !!!!??? TIA

    Combo Back brakes....advice please John/Burnerman??!!

Well- thought I'd update this, my pre-mot flagged up the brakes, a wiper and an advisory on an inner track rod end. I put it in for the MOT and spoke to the head mechanic, showed him the photos and told him about the strut nut not being tightened etc...he was genuinely mortified, and very...

    Vauxhall Combo 1.3cdti, handling improvement.

My van is supposed to have a payload capacity of 595kg? I doubt it's anything like that and have thought about some heavier duty springs too...

    Combo Back brakes....advice please John/Burnerman??!!

Cheers John....actually very satisfying knowing I've saved myself £350-£400 and I trust myself on jobs I can do more than the garage (well with good reason, this example for starters. The time it needed a new sump the garage hacked through the exhaust to get to it, crap welding after and missing...

    Combo Back brakes....advice please John/Burnerman??!!

Something else about the work they did....must have had a job getting the drums off both sides. In the top two photos of this post you can see where the screwdrivers have bent the thin inner rim around the backplate that sits in the corresponding recess on the drum to keep weather out. I had to...

    Combo Back brakes....advice please John/Burnerman??!!

Well well well..... The other side was identical I decided at this point to use a file to mark the outer strut at the adjuster end so that when dismantled there'd be no dispute over whether the arm was the correct way against the shoe..... The remaining photos show the marks on the strut, the...

    Combo Back brakes....advice please John/Burnerman??!!

Cheers John- I'll dismantle the leading shoe(Non hand brake) side first to see whether they have got the end 180 degrees out. I'm tempted to dismantle and clean the lot now I'm in there tbh...! When the brakes were done last January they did clean off any lip as there was nothing hindering the...

    Combo Back brakes....advice please John/Burnerman??!!

So, Done the front brakes fine, all went well and they're good. The self adjusting kit arrived yesterday so this afternoon got the N/S wheel and drum off with no wrangling and found this.... On closer inspection I realised that the adjuster pivot is lacking one of those spring washers you...

Vauxhall Combo 1.3cdti 2009 rear brakes issues....

Thanks John, top advice. I've just stumbled on the fact that Haynes do a manual for the van, just got one for £13. At 9 yrs old it's a funny one do I sell it or persevere and try and do as much as I can myself (done all the servicing basics) Only got 75k on the clock and had it from new. Only...

Vauxhall Combo 1.3cdti 2009 rear brakes issues....

Cheers John, I've actually just ordered a set of adjusters off of Ebay for £25. This has to be the problem and I noticed that of late the footbrake goes quite far on first press but if you quickly press again it firms up with less travel- reckon the adjusters have failed and allow the shoes to...

Vauxhall Combo 1.3cdti 2009 rear brakes issues....

Hi Folks, Last year the handbrake cable snapped outside the O/S hub. When the garage fixed it at the MOT they found both cylinders were starting to leak so the van got the rear brakes fully replaced- well- shoes, spring kit, cylinders, new handbrake cable. Since then the van has done just 3,600...

Thermal store showing temperatures fine but luke warm water??

Think Shambolic has nailed it though, had to go through the process today again. Looks like a new complete valve is needed as no amount of searching has led me to a replacement cartridge.... Or just bypass the thing altogether and put warning labels over the HW outlets ;-)
