    Hidden fixing shelf, heavy loads.

I want to create a shelf in an alcove, so supported on 2 short sides and 1 long side. Actual finished shelf will be about 100mm thick. I dont want to see any fixings. Its to take a fish tank though so will need to support 250k, call it 300 to be safe. Shelf finish will be wood, but i...

    single glazed upvc, double units

Glass doesnt look very thick so probably 4mm. Having another look, there may be a bit more space. The inner rubber and spacer are at least 20mm, i.e. there is 20mm between the glass and the frame. I dont know how much room the inner seal takes up though. I'd obviously be getting someone...

    Insulating slab bay roof

Our house has a bay window with a concrete slab roof. I figured i should probably insulate this. No space on the inside though. A few years back i insulated 160 balcony slab floors on a block of flats. We used 25mm marmox boards bonded down with tile adhesive. I was thinking of doing...

    single glazed upvc, double units

Our house is ex council. At some point it has had single glazed UPVC windows fitted. They must have been in ages, but are in good condition. Nothing warped, bowing, broken etc, all catches work, got all keys, they seem very well made. Can we get double glazed units fitted to them? Seems a...

    baumatic bt2750 oven problem

this cooker was bought second hand a few months back but only just fitted as we had to wait untill our kitchen was re-wired. Its gas hob, electric oven. The small oven is giving us problems. When you turn it on the pre heat light doesnt always turn on. The top element seems to warm up a...

    Garage floor

I think ive almost finished digging out for my garage. Its light use only, few hobby benches and motorcycles. There is no car access. Floor will be 3-4" of type 1 then 3-4" of concrete. Maybe not quite as thick as it could/should be but unless this is definately going to be really bad...

    Beach Buggy Restoration,

Why didnt you use a new pair of floor pan halves? Depending on how low you want to go, caster shims, long travel ball joints and bushes to drop the steering arms underneath help alot, not needed if you dont go super low though. Im guessing you probably know this anyway. From my time mesing...

    Anyone else tried Concrete Worktops?

Just re-rad RH2's post, are you saying the dye should be added to the water? I dont recall doing it that way, im sure i just threw it in with dryish mix then added water as it mixed till i got the consistancy needed.

    Anyone else tried Concrete Worktops?

Been ages since i used dye, did 120 square meters of patio all pointed (wet and trowel finished) with yellow dyed mix. I dont remember doing anything different to the mix other than being more carefull to use the same measurements with each mix. Dont remember any issues with shade...

    Anyone else tried Concrete Worktops?

Out of interest, why did you opt to stain after rather than use dye in the mix? I saw something on youtube not long ago about staining/dying concrete worktops with acids. They did all sorts of colours to end up with a dark green stone looking finish. No info about what they were using...

    Anyone else tried Concrete Worktops?

I dont know how expensive it would work out, but small gravel is easily available at aquarium shops. Might need to find their supplier though for reasonable bulk costs. Thanks for the answers, the double wall mold for the upstand is obvious now you've said it! Any chance of a close up pic...

    Covenant on ex council house

Thanks. I managed to speak to someone about it today, i have to deal with Kiers housing department. Basicaly its a flat rate of £100 or £150 depending on if the work need planning permission or not. She also said there are very few reasons why you'd ever be refused. Things like trying to...

    Covenant on ex council house

Oh, there are other issues too. It says no driveways and the front garden must remain grased and open plan. There is a path that leads to the front door and around the back of the house. The garage is for motorbikes. I dont need a drive, the path is fine as it is, will using this for...

    Covenant on ex council house

It turns out the house were trying to buy is ex council and there is a covenant on it saying that i cant build anything anywhere on the property. without permission from the council first. I want to build a garage, without a garage the house is useless to us. Im trying to talk to the...

    Anyone else tried Concrete Worktops?

I have been considering doing something similar. Can i ask a few questions? I assume the base board stays there. The edges extend down past the base board correct? How did you cast the upstand, just a stiff mix? What was your mix? Thanks.

Best way to remove tile adhesive

Your only hope is that the origional adhesive hadnt stuck properly. Hate to say it, but i'd say there is no chance of getting the origional wall good enough to paint without re-plastering.
