Yes, we have a tank in the loft. What is the difference between a combi and a system boiler?

    Combi boiler right for us?

Hi, we live in a 2 bedroom, one bathroom house, and currently have a 25 year or so old back boiler. Thinking maybe it isn't going to last much longer, so as a preventative measure I'm considering replacing it with a combi. Is a combi the right choice though? We currently have no shower, so...

    Tung oil

So you wouldn't use tung oil? I saw an episode of Gardeners' World last year and in that they made a large garden table out of a big piece of either teak or oak. Toby Buckland recommended using vegetable oil to treat it rather than buy expensive treatments. I thought of using it for my...

    Veggie patch virgin!

If you're planning on growing carrots in there then I'd be inclined not to put manure in there as it encourages forking of the roots. As for when to start I'd probably start them next month sowing some every 3 weeks or so until July. Kohl Rabi is worth checking out too. Looks like something...

    Tung oil

I bought a solid oak table just before Christmas and used some of Ikea's Behandla wood treatment oil on it twice. The other day I noticed that there's a small crack appearing so decided to do some research. I've searched the forum, and decided tung oil is the way to go so I bought some Liberon...

Timer no longer working on central heating

Anyone know where the back plate mounts on the above unit?? As the current one we have mounts onto it's back plate to the left hand side as you look at it. And right next to it we have a FCU for the heating so if these Siemens unit's fit the back plate in the centre I can't fit one without...

Longer screws for switches and sockets

Ahhhh right!! Just measured them and it's a little over an inch from the lug for the screw to the wall. Too much?

Longer screws for switches and sockets

 :? which is?? Not sure if it makes any difference but he's rendered then skimmed them all nice and neat on the inside, just the screws no longer reach.

Longer screws for switches and sockets

Since having our really crappy walls rendered and skimmed and couple of our new sockets are now too deep for the existing screws. Really silly question like  But can you get 40-50mm screws for them? If so, what are they called and where from? :?

    Refilling heating system

Thanks bhm, just done that and it's heating up. One thing though. In a cupboard in the son's room is the stopcock for the hot water coming from the loft. Beside that pipe is another with a smaller stopcock on it. Which I assume sends cold water to the tank in the loft. The one that turns the...

    Krono laminate flooring

Considering getting tile effect laminate in our kitchen and came across the Krono range of stone effect laminates. Has anyone come across this stuff before? It works out around £130 cheaper buying this stuff off the net rather than something like B&Q's TileLOC stuff. Just wondering how good it is.

    Refilling heating system

Something along the lines of that IIRC.....only not as big. I guess the cylinder's inside of that?

    Refilling heating system

:? There's no cylinder anywhere in the house. Is that possible?? Or am I just an idiot?

    Refilling heating system

Sorry Kev, but what is a primatic cylinder?? All I'm aware of is the back boiler sends hot water for the taps to the hot water tank in the loft. :?
