    Tanking & Battens

Hi I just finished tanking WP1 BAL my shower cubicle in preparation for tiling. I have a three questions: 1) I need to use battens for the lower part of the tiles (first course). If I fix the battens (screws) this will compromise the tanking when the battens are removed. The tiles...

15 mm flexi with a ball valve

The monoblock tap I have has two tails coming out ending in just 15mm tails. One for hot one for cold. So I have to connect two 15mm coppers together for each tap. Ideally with these flexis cos they have the ball valves built in and obvious flexi.

15 mm flexi with a ball valve

Gentlemen I have just bought some 15mm flexis that have an in-built ball valve in them. The end with the ball valve can connect direct to the 15mm copper feed. The question I have it how to connect the other end. Can I just screw the flex to the other end of a 15mm compression...

    Potterton Prima F - Overheat Cut-out --

Its starting to look a lot like Christmas! Gents I have a Potterton 60F Prima balanced flue gas boiler that keeps cutting out. Pressing (and holding) the reset button will get the flame back but as soon as I take my finger off the button it cuts out. The boiler at this point is only warm...

Extractor Fan - ducting leading to boxed in Ply to outside

I would have thought the boxing in would lay wet but it appears to be dry. It is not a power shower though so it's not as if there is loads of steam belting out. It seems a crappy idea to me. The small bit of pipe is just so it does not vent into the cavity but from then on its just ply...

Extractor Fan - ducting leading to boxed in Ply to outside

Gentle Men - (and ladies) I am in the process of replacing an extractor fan (wall mounted) in my downstairs shower room. I am going to us a Greenwood 100m fan and vent it out the wall. When I removed the old fan I noticed that there was a length of pipe about the length of the wall...

WOTCHAAAA We have a problem. 1970's bungalow. There is a leak about 6 inches below the mains stopcock into the house. The supply pipe is black in colour and is sheathed in what looks like 1.5 waste (where is exits the concrete). The leak is apparent about 2 inches of the screed (covered...

    P trap - extra bit

Gentlemen I have a p-trap on the bottom of me bath. The waste and overflow go in one side and then disappears out the other. There is however an extra nut along the horizontal. This is the same size as the other two "nut". I can't tell what it is for. I think it is a cleaning eye -...

    Sludge Removal

I have a sticky 3-way valve on a 10 year old system. This system has only ever had fresh water in it. What I plan to do it put some sludge removal in (X400 or Fernox equiv), flush it and then put the inhibitor in. I would like to do this in a single day and not have to wait for a week...

Shall I buy a new element - heated towel rail

Geezers! I have just bought a heated towel rail (mounted in a large cupboard to act like an airing cupboard). I have a 5 year guarantee on it. SHould I buy a back up element for when this one screws up? If and when it does fail am I right in thinking I can just replace the element...

Bevel or compund - the difference

Geezers! I just brought a powered compound mitre power saw. I need to cut cornice and pelmets. My question is this. As far as I thought I could stand the cornice upright against the fence (as if the fence is the wall) and do a 45 degree cut. This would then match the right angles...

    Spur from a spur

Firstly , thanks for all the interest. I was under the following impression: If there is an EXISTING spur from a ring then the maximum should be a double socket. I have a spur (fitted by builders when house was built) that feeds 2 double sockets. If I put a fuse socket BEFORE the...

    Spur from a spur

I am not being lazy! Honest I want to prevent a fire and make it safe until I can get to do it. I just wanted to replace one of the sockets on the spur with a fuse to at least make it safe until I can do it. By the look of things it was originally wired like this from new build in 1976...
