How to prep these walls before painting?

Thanks. Got some left over emulsion. Might just paint a small patch and see what happens. How will I know if the paste is interacting with the paint? Presume it’ll bubble or flake off?

How to prep these walls before painting?

Thanks The wallpaper came off very easily. Wall has been washed again. Doesn’t feel like there’s any glue residue left on the wall when touched by hand. There are no holes in the wall that need to be filled are you suggesting to skim the hole wall with powder filler?

How to prep these walls before painting?

I’ve stripped previous owners wallpaper off a couple of walls in a 1st floor bedroom. Typical terrace property. The wall surface under the wallpaper looks like a mix of paint with patches of raw plaster. What do I need to do to prep these walls before painting with the coloured paint (top...

Which combi boiler replacement? Vaillant EcoFit Pure vs Baxi 800 vs Ideal Logic 2

My bad. The I got the models mixed up. My current one is a MAINS eco 30. Some parts were missing and a number of leaks were detected during a service. So the boiler had to be put out of action. So no ch or hw. They said the parts were small but given where they were it would need new front...

Which combi boiler replacement? Vaillant EcoFit Pure vs Baxi 800 vs Ideal Logic 2

My 14-year-old Mains Eco 30 combi has died and repair quote is £1,000, so replacing seems the sensible option. Property: 2 bed + box room terrace, East of England. Single heating zone, manual TRVs on radiators. This is our long-term home. Current setup: Tado X thermostat (wireless) which I’d...

Stripping wallpaper around electrics in cupboard - safe approach?

Quick one - prepping an under-stairs cupboard and need to strip off some manky chipboard-effect wallpaper that's half-removed already. Some difficult spots to tackle, consumer unit, meters, and cable runs all over the base and walls. See photos. Best method for stubborn wallpaper removal here...

MAINS Eco Elite 30 - Radiators Getting Warm with Heating OFF?

Update from the last 24 hours: I've noticed a few things that might help diagnose the issue: The radiators that were hot yesterday evening were completely cold this morning when I woke up, which suggests the boiler shut off properly overnight. However, after I'd been using hot water for 10-20...

MAINS Eco Elite 30 - Radiators Getting Warm with Heating OFF?

I've got a MAINS Eco Elite 30 combi boiler and I'm experiencing a strange issue that I can't figure out. Some radiators are getting warm even when the central heating is turned off. Specifically: When the boiler is set to hot water only (or HW + CH mode), certain radiators start heating up...

    Window key replacements?

Thanks for this. Is it the sort of key you can only get from specific places or would most locksmiths or key cutters stock this sort of thing?

    Window key replacements?

I've got uPVC lockable windows. Need some extra keys for the window locks. What sort are these? Do they need to have copies cut or do you order generic ones? I've checked the key, but there appears to be no serial or unique identifier on them to order new replacements.

Curtain rail wall anchors keep breaking

I've fitted an IKEA curtain rail to the inside, top of the window alcove using drywall anchors (the plastic kind). This was what was recommended at my local hardware store but the wall anchors keep snapping, bending and then falling out of the drilled holes. Slowly over time, the fittings are...

    Rented Flat: Letterbox woes

Can anyone advise on how to fix a dodgy letterbox on my rented flat? The letterbox on the outside of the door doesn't open fully. It looks like it's not correctly aligned with the hole in the door, so the top edge of the letterbox aperture is stopping the flap from opening to a 90-degree angle...

Hanging 3-5 mirrors -- can I use the existing picture rail?

Hahaha, risky strategy. Thanks for the hook suggestions. What about hanging from the back of the mirror to the hook on the rail? Should I used metal chain, picture hook wire? Or something different?

Hanging 3-5 mirrors -- can I use the existing picture rail?

I want to create a feature all using 3-5 vintage mirrors I've collected from charity shops. They're all quite heavy, at a guess 10-20kg each. Some have chains on the back with hooks in place on the wooden mirror back. I have a picture rail on the wall I want to hang them from. What picture...

Do you mean putting the screws through the axel to keep the wheel from falling off? Thanks for all the suggestions btw.

Help: How can I fix broken wheel cap on a fishermens trolley

That's right the axel is fixed and the wheel rotates around it. It's only held on by an end cap, with a spring loaded clip that fits into a little whole about 3 x 3 mm. Tbh the fixture is pretty weak given it's only held in place by plastic. A Jubilee clip might be best bet? An R-pin or split...

Help: How can I fix broken wheel cap on a fishermens trolley

The plastic end cap on my fishermens trolley has broken and the little bit of plastic that keeps it in place has snapped off completely. Anyone got any ideas of how I can fix it and keep the wheel on the axel. I was thinking that some Sugru might do the job?

Fitting pegboard to back of TV cabinet

Maybe bordering on OCD but I'm not autistic. :D I've seen pegboard use for this sort of situation before and seemed to be quite effective. Just not sure how best to attach it to the cabinet once I've got the thin veneered plywood back off. Couple of links to images I found through Lifehacker...

Fitting pegboard to back of TV cabinet

I guess I could just hang a whole sheet of pegboard off the back of the unit? Can anyone recommend what sort of fixture / hooks would be best to take the weight of the pegboard and the plugs.
