    Ferroli optimal he plus 31c

There should have been a blanking plug supplied with the boiler, which plugs in instead of the clock when using fully external controls. Alternatively, set the clock to constant on as above :)

Baxi Luna 24Fi / Alpha 240 - Orange light problem.

Looks to me like your second two are both the ignition PCB.

    Ferroli domicondens he26c

There's a microprocessor in the PCB, so a tad more complicated than just relays. As Agile says, PCBs with gas settings aren't a DIY job. If you've got the bits that came with the boiler, then there should be a link block that plugs into the clock and bridges it if you're not using a room...

    Ferroli domicondens he26c

Manual is here: http://www.ferroli.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2012/09/DOMIcondens-HE-26c-Manual.pdf A02 means that the boiler believes that there is a flame present with the burner off, and gives the choice of a gas related fault or the PCB in the troubleshooting options. Refurbed...

Fault, state of install and possible CU replacement

So, the fault was eventually found (4 hours labour) as a cable trapped between a floorboard and the joist in the upstairs bathroom. Lovely burn on it, and I'm amazed it hadn't tripped things before, as I certainly haven't touched the floor in the last 6 years. I'm waiting for the bill and...

65W laptop supply in enclosure - safe to use?

Our model railway club has done a similar thing without any ventilation other than a couple of grilles, so I don't think it'd be a problem per-se. You'll find that even at full pelt, very little ventilation is needed, although the brick may get a tad warm.

Fault, state of install and possible CU replacement

Very true :P We're concentrating on getting the fault fixed at the moment (The 'string' has been disconnected, so most of the lights work & it's not dangerous per-se), and I'm trying to better understand the options available to me to improve the current situation :) This fault is...

Fault, state of install and possible CU replacement

OK, so apologies in advance for what's going to be a long-ish post. FWIW I'm a reasonably competant DIY-er, but I don't have any decent test gear, just a standard meter :) Things started on Thursday afternoon, when the RCD tripped out. After a lot of chasing, it was determined that the...

    replacing brass pendant with plastic

Sounds to me like someone's used simply used loop as a convenient place to terminate the CPC before taking one to the light body and one to the lampholder. (From what you describe, there are no black/ red wires in loop, simply the ones in earth sleeving?) If that's the case, just stick the...

Myson MPRT RF White - aesthetics?!

Don't disagree with fugly, but *if* the writing is printed on the surface, gently massaging with a cloth dipped in brake fluid will probably remove it. This obviously won't work with laser etched letters (Where you can feel an indent), but works with most transfers and printed techniques...

    Gas "Pressure" issue?

A gas guy will be along in a minute, but IIRC any flickering of flames is an immediate disconnection issue. Broken ignition isn't an issue though as far as I'm aware, I've been using matches for years

    Pipe Lagging...

Saving money and increasing overall efficiency :) My point is that by lagging the pipes, most of that 7w will actually be transferred to the radiator, whose efficiency increases with temperature, and the flow/ return temps will correspondingly increase, giving an actual drop of I guess about...

    Pipe Lagging...

Interesting thought :) I hadn't actually considered satisfaction of the thermostat as a contributing factor, but it's not really something I can see as having a major effect, and possibly even quite the opposite. If we're assuming both the thermostat and the TRVs are 'dumb', then they'll cutoff...

    Pipe Lagging...

(Continuing post above, decided not to edit) The majority of my radiators are 60cm x 70cm double convectors, so going by Stelrad's figures approx 1245w. Take the 0.5c increase in flow temps, and that gives me somewhere around an extra 20w. Convert this back to BTU, and the radiator has...

    Pipe Lagging...

Heated rooms, but I suppose that was the point of my wall of calculations :) A lot of people say *don't* lag in heated rooms, but my figures are giving a saving, if a marginal one. As a further note on the radiator issue, I've found an online calculator that suggests an increase of in the...

    Pipe Lagging...

OK, so from a search and a chase, this appears to be a somewhat controversial topic  Anyway, I'm looking at lagging various central heating pipes. These are your pretty standard central heating pipes, and mostly drop from the ceiling to feed rads. There's somewhere in the region of...

    Peeling and associated issues

Maybe I'm not being entirely clear :P This 2ft odd high patch has *no* undercoat, and I'm only peeling up until the top of it. Can't get any sort of reading out of the wall on the multimeter either, I've been all the way up to 2,000k Ω (I wouldn't necessarily call this conclusive...

    Peeling and associated issues

Might try meddling with the multimeter, but I'm very sceptical of any damp diagnosis (And for that matter, those meters tell you pretty much squat) :) If I had the undercoat above coming off too, I might agree, but this smacks of a badly/ wrongly prepared patch of some description.

    Peeling and associated issues

I'm trying to fix up my kitchen for repainting, and have run into *another* problem  As you can hopefully see (Not the best of images), I've got a patch of peeling paint around the bottom of this doorframe. I've pulled everything off that will come off easily with fingers/ rolling on...
