Stove hood motor spins the wrong way.

Hi The fan won't be running the wrong way because line and neutral are reversed. It will run the same way regardless of how they are connected. It's important that they are connected the right way according to the device's instructions though. The cable colours are "harmonised" i.e...

Underfloor heating - fuse and stat are getting hot !

    the mats will be wired in parallel so resistance won't be R1+R2 but 1 / ( 1/R1 + 1/R2) 1/ (1/53 + 1/27) = 18 ohms P = V^2 / R P = 240*240 / 18 P = 3.2 kW

Underfloor heating - fuse and stat are getting hot !

Think the OP has the resistance measurements the wrong way round. Resistance of 10m^2 mat should be approx 1/2 of that of the 5 m^2 mat. Try with: 5m2 = 53ohms 10m2 = 27ohms

Are the cables in the thermostat and FCU screwed down tightly enough?

    Blank plate with connector block?

Sorry. Just read the original post again. I'd been imagining a single cable feeding the socket rather than a ring

    Blank plate with connector block?

No current flows through a cable that isn't connected to anything? There will be voltage ACROSS the conductors but no current THROUGH them? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirchhoff's_circuit_laws

    Blank plate with connector block?

Why does the current rating of the terminating block matter when the cable is not carrying any current? If the cable isn't connected to anything, the current through its conductors will be 0 amps. I'm not trying to say that a 30A block isn't needed - I'm just interested to know why.

    Illuminated mirror

There's no external transformer just a 230V T&E feed through a rubber grommet in the rear of the mirror. The grommet is the standard type that you pierce so I can't see the cable's outside dimensions making a difference there.

I guess they might be derating the cable because the mirror is heated...

    Illuminated mirror

I can't disagree re following the instructions. I'd like to know why they specify those cable sizes though. What the instructions say is: "Insert a 3-core 1.5 or 1.75mm cable through the pierced hole in the protective cover and thread the cable through from behind the back box into the...

    Illuminated mirror

I'm have bought an illuminated mirror to replace a shaver socket with. The mirror is heated and has a shaver socket. Its rated power is Max 300W. There's sufficient spare capacity on the circuit. The manufacturer's instructions says to use 1.5 or 1.75 mm^2 T&E. The existing cable is all...

    Bath overflow filler

Hi all, I'm currently fitting a new bath (standard size) and would like an overflow filler. The bathroom has a 22mm HW feed pipe and a 15mm CW feed. The bath is on the first floor with a gravity-fed system so HW pressure will be about 0.2Bar. CW comes direct from the rising main. Getting...

    Supporting bifolding doors

Thanks for your reply. The distance between the doors and roof is big because I want to keep the whole of the new roof above the level of the existing kitchen roof and the doors are already tall (2.4m). I'm more concerned about supporting the weight of the door than the roof (which as...

    Supporting bifolding doors

I want to build a conservatory and I'd like to have a bifolding door across the whole wall at one end. One of the side walls - the kitchen wall - already exists. I'm building a new one parallel to it. The door is to go between these two walls flush with the end of the kitchen. The doors will be...

    PIR Light Switch

Thanks. Option 1 was what I had in mind (joining the switched lives from the PIR and switch if I understand it right). I'll go with this. Thanks for your time

    PIR Light Switch

Hi We have a porch which has an internal light but the light switch is inside the lounge the other side of a door that we lock when going out. This makes the light pretty much useless unless we leave it on when we're out. I want to fit a PIR sensor such that the light comes on automatically...

Pin Hole leak in brand new

You have a legal right to a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act. This states that products sold "must be of satisfactory quality". A rad that leaks out of the box isn't. I'd suggest contacting the seller and telling them that you expect a replacement. If they refuse then you can contact...
