Mapei Shower Waterproofing Kit - observation, and supplier Q

Just a quick update to this: In cleaning up ready to retile, I was able to peel off the gum in large sheets - adhesion to these boards was not at all strong and I was able to clean up/remove the tanking entirely from the untiled areas with minimal effort until it looks like tanking has never...

Heating - multiple queries - TRVs, Wireless Programmer

Hi, 1. Thought as much. Don't mind spending the money on replacing these like for like if they were any good. But these are barely 3 years old and now junk. I reckon a modern Drayton/Honeywell design would perform better and cost a fraction. 2. ha, yes fair point. I'm not sure that...

Heating - multiple queries - TRVs, Wireless Programmer

Polite gentle bump - anyone? I realise it's a lot of questions, but any help appreciated :) Can't bring myself to spend £600 on replacement TRVs just before Xmas :(

Heating - multiple queries - TRVs, Wireless Programmer

Hi, Got a few queries - and hoping for some help: 1. Cast iron period radiators, with period style Gothic Thermostatic valves - possibly made by Bentley or similar - like this http://www.hotinteriors.co.uk/productDetails.php/872/gothic-trv-thermostatic-radiator-valve-antique-brass0...

Mapei Shower Waterproofing Kit - observation, and supplier Q

Understand that tanking is required because Hardi s not impermeable to water - just doesn't deteriorate in its presence, thus a waterproofing layer is essential.

Mapei Shower Waterproofing Kit - observation, and supplier Q

Halfway through a tiling job onto hardibacker tanked with the Mapei Shower Waterproofing kit, we had a change of heart on the tiles and tile pattern. Cutting a long story short, had to remove tiles after a week, with inevitable damage to hardibacker and tanking. Worryingly, the Mapei...

Two bathroom basins, sharing 1 x 40mm waste - ok?

Presume I'd only need 50mm for where they join together - ie the last 25 cm or so?

Two bathroom basins, sharing 1 x 40mm waste - ok?

Hi - the Run on 1 is about 1 m, and the run on the second is about 1.5m. They'd join a swept Tee about 20cm from the Stack. (The bathrooms are adjacent thru a stud wall).

Two bathroom basins, sharing 1 x 40mm waste - ok?

50mm just seemed a little excessive for 2 x Basins, when 32mm is ok for one. I thought going to 40mm (50% more area) would be ok. Don't think anyone makes a 50mm pedestal trap?

Two bathroom basins, sharing 1 x 40mm waste - ok?

As per the subject, it would be much simpler for me to run 2 x basins (main bathroom, and next door en-suite) joining via a swept tee into 1 40mm waste boss into the stack. Pipes will be 40mm throughout (unless that is unnecessary). Is that compliant? I know I'm best running separate...

Interior door locks - what do you call this piece?

Thanks for that - I thought they'd have a name :) I'll see if I can find out who makes the locks and approach them directly now that I know the name of the part. Thanks for the advice, Simon

Interior door locks - what do you call this piece?

Previous owner has made a bit of a pig's ear fitting door locks to some of the interior bedrooms. Think his chisel was a screwdriver. Anyway, the thin "striker" plate that the latch and the lock locate into, where he had a bad fit, he has just sawn out the metal between the two recesses. I...

    Opposing wastes question

Ah, excellent - so opposites are ok, it's only when you are connecting in the danger zones just below that you have a problem. That's a relief indeed. So you can use all the bosses at the same level on a section. I had it in my head that if they were directly opposing it was an issue. Very...

    Opposing wastes question

Ah, I think I see what you are saying. Is the same true for the small bosses? If they are opposed, I don't think there is a sweep on them, or does the built in 2.5 deg angle alleviate the problem?

    Opposing wastes question

Thanks - Perhaps I'm misreading the regs - the boss opposite the WC must fall into the danger zone? Also for the small pipes, isn't there a 110mm danger zone?

    Opposing wastes question

Hi, Soil stack in main bathroom sits the other side of a stud wall to a planned en-suite. Stack has a 92.5 deg branch going off to the loo, and at 90 deg at the same level, the 43mm waste from the bath. At the same exact point I would need to join the stack in height terms, I would like...

Prep for Drylined walls prior to painting

Thanks - it's not too late for the plasterboard - I haven't put that up yet, so could always get waterproof plasterboard. I didn't think it necessary, as I'm using aquapanel completely within the shower; it's also 1.5m on the long dimension, and thus the ordinary plasterboard is a long way from...

Prep for Drylined walls prior to painting

P.S. - The room has an extractor, and is reasonably large, doesn't get particularly damp.

Prep for Drylined walls prior to painting

Hi, Sorry - I should have provided more info. The Shower area itself will be boarded with Aquapanel and tiled. The area I'm unsure about preparation is outside of the "wet zone" and is boarded with standard tapered edge gyproc plasterboard, joint filled with easy fill. The finish for...

Prep for Drylined walls prior to painting

Hi - have been doing some bathroom renovations. Will soon, I hope, be ready for painting the wall I had to strip back to studs for some plumbing work. All the walls in the (old) property have been insulated and drylined (no skim coat) when it was converted. So I'm going to do the same for...
